You'll have to modulate the gun (optics?) with two sources
to create basic lissajous patterns (harmonics) or for more advanced
patterns you could computerize the modulation sources for hologram
type 3-D images. The latter is more effective with several guns of
at least the primary colored beams.
Of course you want to define the result. Either you'll
want a projection of an image or the beams themselves will be the
primary effect. The combination can be quite impressive also.
A little bit of smoke or fog will make the beams stand out
tremendously.

| Well, it depends on the laser. What I had in mind was like a 4
millieWatt (???I think) laser you could use in dance club type setting.
I think anything over 7 mil/W you have to have a permit to own and
operate. Don't hold me to the ratings on these lasers...my memory
sucks. But I have looked directly into the beam of the one I'm talking
about with no ill effect....wouldn't be a good idea to stare into it.
But, as I said, these are lasers designed for a club setting.

re: .2
I saw Triumph bounce the laser off of a mirror ball durinf their Never
Surrender tour. The effect was INCREDIBLE!!!
Anyway, I finally looked, and this thing is a 5mW Helium/Neon laser.
Where can I get info on building a modulator, etc.

lets revisit this...
still looking for info. is there any sort of software/hardware
available for a pc to do laser 'bitmaps' or patterns? i'd really like
to start playing with this to see what can be done. we're starting to
play out more and more, and a local band with a laser act would go over
fairly large, i'd imagine :').
maybe even midi laser control?!? i figure the most expensive part of
this whole thing would be the lasers themselves...

| I know I've seen articles on light show control software for the Amiga,
but not for the PC. (The good news is that many such things do make
their way to the PC via the Amiga, so it's probably either here by now
or just a matter of time...)

| Stone Mountain, outside Atlanta, does a laser show most every night. I
spoke with the guy who runs the show and, while I forget the details,
I do remember I was amazed at just how low-tech the controlling
computer system was. The whole thing ran on something like 8K...

| I'll take a look and see if I still have the article. It was an issue of
AmigaWorld, which I no longer archive beyond a year or two.
