103.0. "Christmas/XMAS album topic" by HELIX::TABOR () Mon Dec 30 1991 17:20

    Christmas Eve, the subject of a popular Christmas
    album from many years ago -- probably late 50s --
    arose and I was appointed the bearer of the
    following question:

    Does anyone know of an album called
    "60 French Girls Sing Christmas"?

    Also, any leads on places that sell very old albums?
    That is, other than the record shops that specialize
    in such? For example, any search service as there are
    with books?

    My vote for "Best Christmas Album of 1991":

       The Chieftains -- "Bells of Dublin"

    NPR did a lengthy review/interview about the album on Christmas Eve.

	Best Christmas album of 1991 - "A Lump of Coal". Great
	version of "We Three Kings" by the Odds, memorable
	reading of "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Henry
	Rollins (machine guns, explosions, and random noises to
	set the mood:-), and several other "alternative" versions
	of familiar and not-so-familiar holiday music.

    The best Christmas cd for 1991 has got to be the Home Alone soundtrack.
    Great choir rendition of "O Holy Night" and Mel Torme's "A Merry Little
    Christmas is also fun.

    I'll second 'Lump of Coal' being a great album - love the Crash Test
    Dummies doing "The First Noel". I'll also say that "Little Drummer
    Boy" by Bing & Bowie is the best version of that song ever recorded.
    And I'll add Leon Redbone's "Christmas Island" as a great Christmas
    album with his duet with Dr. John on "Frosty the Snowman" being the
    best version of that song ever recorded (all just IMHO).

103.6Kenny Roger'sMEMIT::OTOOLEFri Feb 21 1992 16:177
    I like Kenny Roger's Christmas in America, some real nice songs.

    He did a great job with the title piece he also says a little prayer in
    it and it is very sentimental.

103.7Jon Anderson?STAR::BENSONWhat is that in dog-MIPS?Tue Dec 22 1992 09:535
    A friend is looking for a copy of Jon Anderson's "Three Ships," which
    I believe is out of print. Anyone seen one lately (or have a spare?)
    Obviously, used is OK.  Thanks,
