March but have not heard of any Boston area dates. Has anyone else?
Thanks.

102.4 | March 7 in Worcester Maybe? | JARETH::BSEGAL | | Tue Jan 07 1992 14:30 | 5 |

neither the Centrum box office nor TicketMaster has officially announced
anything but that date is worth watching for perhaps.

102.5 | I'll be at the Hartford show | LEDS::BURATI | Mind the cat | Fri Jan 17 1992 17:05 | 4 |

advertised as the area's only appearance. In Harford that usually
means no Springfield, Worcester or New Haven shows.

102.6 | | EZRIDR::SIEGEL | The revolution wil not be televised | Mon Jan 20 1992 13:09 | 7 |
| I heard March 1 at either Boston Garden or Hartford or Providence (I forget
which, but it was one of them), and March 2,3 at the Centrum.
If Hartford tix went on sale, the Centrum can't be far behind (if they play
there).

| A Hartford-based ticket agency advertising in the Boston Phoenix has
been listing a March 7 date for the Centrum but that date has not been
confirmed anywhere else (concert lines, Centrum box office, etc.).
Hopefully DS will not skip the Boston area.

It was a great performance!

102.11 | Great | DKAS::RIVERS | Master Ninja Theme Song! | Mon Mar 09 1992 13:47 | 15 |
| I second the last note, although I saw them in Hartford.
The stage and lighting set up was the best I've ever seen, live or on
TV/tape. The music was great--they covered just about all the
favorites you could want, plus a healthy dose of tracks from the new
CD. Mark Knopfler (sp) is probably one of the best guitarists in the
world, and I'm not a guitar fan. The music actually sounded BETTER
live than on the CD.
The only gripe I had was that oftentimes, you could not understand what
he was saying when he spoke into the mike between song (he mumbles a
bit, I think), and during the songs, the vocals sometimes got a little
under the music. Other than that, no bitches, no gripes. A great
show. I'd see them again in a minute.

102.12 | Band was great, arena wasn't | ASDG::BECHTLER | | Wed Mar 11 1992 18:16 | 16 |
| Yeah, I thought the band and the sound were really good, too.
I was less than impressed with the Centrum and the crowd, however.
I'm new to the area and this was my first time there. The design of
the arena where the third-level people use the second-level stairs
means that the number of people walking across your line of vision
for beer and potty breaks is doubled. In addition the second level
there under the third level is too brightly lit. There was no
security keeping people from sitting in the aisles...when the aisle
is clogged up, it takes four times as long for people to get through.
And lastly, the random wolf howls and whistles and rhythmic clapping
in the middle of QUIET songs is annoying. I know that's part of
what going to concerts is all about...but the last three concerts I
went to were all Rush, and the last thing Rush fans do is interfere
with the music!

102.13 | where is this song recorded? | ASDG::BECHTLER | | Wed Mar 11 1992 18:21 | 12 |
| My favorite songs in the concert were in the middle. The first was
the one that got some airplay 6 mos (a year?) back, with the tag
line "I think I love you too much." M.K. mumbled something about
writing, not recording this song...but what were the radio stations
playing? It sure sounded like D.S. and I had just assumed it was
something they did while holed up in England the last few years.
Where can I get a recording of this song?
I also liked the one they played right after it, a rocker that had
the sax player moving around the stage, stopping at each band member
to play a chorus.

"I Think I Love You To Much" was written by Knopler but is recorded by
Jeff Healey. Although I believe Knopler plays backup guitar on it.
It is on the Jeff Healey Band CD, I think, entitled, "See the Light".

102.18 | Today's trivia question... | SMURF::STRANGE | Steve Strange - UEG | Thu Oct 01 1992 15:55 | 14 |
| OK, This is driving me nuts. There's this quote that's supposedly from
a Dire Straits song, and I have all their albums, and I don't remember
ever hearing it! I first heard it from Carl Sagan a few years back at
Cornell, now Al Gore is saying it:
``They don't even admit there's a problem,'' Gore said. Quoting
lyrics from a Dire Straits song, Gore said: ``Denial ain't just a river
in Egypt.''
So, is this really from a Dire Straits song, or did Sagan tell Gore
about this (I know they're friends) and thus has been perpetuating this
'rumor'?

I wonder if this reply is too late, I have heard I think nearly
everything they have recorded (including the original demo of sultans
as played by Charlie Gillet which they got signed on)and do not
recall that line in any song,Mark has written two songs with river
analogy, Water of love and Ride across the river. So unless there
is a song out there I dont know about the answer is no.

I have heard the line "Denial ain't just a river in Egypt" in one of
their songs and remember chuckling to myself when I heard it. I have
a tape of a live Dire Straits concert. I'll see if I can find the
song and let you know.

102.23 | Mark Knopfler / Dave Edmunds collaboration? | HLDE01::HIELKEMA_M | | Mon Mar 14 1994 10:19 | 13 |

'The Booze Brothers : Brewers Droop'.
I have never seen this album or read anything about it.
Can anyone tell me what it's like?
Thanks

102.24 | Booze Brothers - 0 out of 5 stars | CSOA1::CLARK | | Tue Mar 15 1994 15:58 | 8 |
| Don't bother with the Booze Brothers disk. I'm a fan of Knopfler and
Edmunds, but this is a real stinker! Neither of them are featured
vocally, and are not used prominently in the guitar work either. If
that isn't enough, the sound quality is poor at best!
What a disappointment!
