*Sigh* Does anyone *really* believe this is the end?
Naomi went public about one year ago with an emotional tale about
how her virile hepatitis was forcing her out of the music business.
Then, she and daughter Wynonna (not their real names, by the way)
went off on a one-year tour.
Does anybody see the problem with that? If you have ever had
diseases of this type and severity, you simply couldn't mount
the energy for a year long tour.
Sure, they cried on Barbara Walters. And there have been zillions
of magazine articles, and roses, and, etc., etc. But isn't this
really just an elaborate publicity scheme for a band that was
in the Top Ten Concert Gross LOSERS in 1991!
Personally, I think Naomi may or may not be sick, but she isn't
as ill as the publicity machine would like you to believe. In
fact, if you read the story in PEOPLE magazine that was out last
week, there is a very significant line buried deep in the text that
says, "Naomi disease, which is said to be in remission.."
In remission! Yeah, I'll bet. You can be sure it will clear up
completely within a year or two, just in time to reviv Wynonna's
stalled career. It will be described as a miracle from God, and
all sorts of other "hallelujah-style baloney" that will appeal to
the conservative, Bible-thumping country music fans.
The new album will hit the streets, and a fabulous reunion tour
will be mounted.
Call me a cynic, if you want. But this has got to be the boldest,
most successful manipulation of the press and media I have ever seen
People with virile hepatitis DO NOT perform for two hours every night
for the better part of a year on a world tour!

| I agree with .2, and am already anticipating Naomi's endless teary
tabloid TV show appearances, as well as the Pay-Per-View reunion concert.
The TV Guide article had a couple of funny comments. According to Naomi,
she was against doing the PPV concert, but when her manager told her how
much money The Judds would earn FOR CHARITY!!! (a small percentage
of the proceeds were earmarked for charity), she was very much in favor
of the gig. Naomi also commented that the year-long tour was a chance
for her fans to say good-bye. What a martyr, always putting charity
and the needs of her fans before her own personal interests!
I've always felt that Wynonna carried Naomi, and that Naomi would
not be able to make it as a soloist. Should Wynonna have chosen
to go solo at any time, Naomi would have been forced to retire.
Using hepatitis as an excuse for early retirement, Naomi will never
have to attempt song on her own in public.

>Well, OK guys, you all go out and get virile hepatitis and see what
>kind of picnic it is....sheesh, this is the same bunch of people
>crying in their beer over Freddie Mercury !!!!
You're damn right we are. Freddie DIED for crying out loud, and from
a disease that he tried to hide from the public. There sure as hell
weren't any "FINAL CORONATION PAY-FOR-VIEW QUEEN CONCERTS" put
on to capitalize on his situation. And the fact that the Judd's
thing is such an obvious publicity ploy totally nauseates me.
What was the big quote on people magazine? Wynonna said, of
mother Naomi, "She is a broken doll and an absolute walking
miracle."
Nice press. But let me tell you this, if my *mother* was dying of
virile hepatitis, I would not refer to her as a "broken doll."
If you have ever been around a person suffering with a terminal
disease....like virile hepatitis....you don't think of cute little
quotes to say about them.
You are right: virile hepatitis is no picnic. In fact, it is very
near debilitating. Which is why the whole thing is one giant lie.
You cannot perform for two hours every night on a year-long tour
with virile hepatitis. Period. I love this crap Naomi says about
"the adrenalin from our concerts, and the love of my fans carries
me through."
The Judds were in the Top 10 money-losers (according to an AP article
in last week's Boston Globe) on last year's concert trail. Hmmmm,
that's pretty interesting. How else do you pump up an declining
artist? How about a rumor? I wish I had a buck for every time
someone told me that A.) Bob Seger B.) Stephen Tyler C.) Insert
your favorite perfomer had throat cancer.
Naomi's feigned illness is an insult to guys like Freddie, who, despite
his campiness and outrageous style, had the class to not try to
*cash in* on a gullible public. How do you think Ronnie Lane will
feel when he watches this special? One thing's for sure: You
won't be reading about any miraculous healing or remission of his
disease.
I should close by saying I actually like their music. If I didn't
care for it one way or another, I probably wouldn't feel this
angry at their blatant media manipulation.
FWIW,
Brian

| I not in a habbit of replying to these type of notes, but I agree 100%
with the coments of the public being had on this one. I think that

| I just heard that the Judd's Pay Per View Concert was the most
successful PPV concert to date.
I heard about the final farewell concert a long time ago, from a friend
who was a fan. She said it had been going on for years. It made
me a little cynical. Then, when I heard people had to pay $25.00
to see the final concert on tv, I was a bit more cynical. It looks
like the Judds know a money-making opportunity when they see one.

| Re: last several
Wait a minute... Isn't this a capitalist country? Doesn't that mean
that people can make money if they want to? I'm pretty sure all those
folks that went to see the Judds on their tour or paid for the PPV
concert didn't give the Judds their money at gun point. Or maybe they
did...
Maybe it's scam, maybe not (I don't think it is, but that's my own
opinion), but the point is that the Judds aren't the people with the
final choice about where those concert-goer spend their money. It may
be foolish to spend your money on a scam... but it your choice.

| I think Brian in note .10 brought out a very good point concerning
Wynnona's behavior towards her mother's alleged illness. Speaking from
personal experience, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer this
summer. I was absolutely devastated. My immediate response was to do
everything in my power to make sure she beats it. It's a natural
response - you become the parent and the parent becomes the child.
That's why I can't understand Wynonna's behavior. If she is as close
to her mother as she makes us believe, why did she allow her to go on a
grueling, year-long city to city tour. One thing you don't do with a
disease like viral hepatitis is allow yourself to get worn out. I
believe any woman's daughter would have put their foot down and said no
tour - you and your health comes first.
It's a scam.

| I just read that viral hepatitus is actually three, different diseases,
with different levels of severity. Levels are A, B and C, with A being
the least severe and C the most. In the very limited text, it appeared
that the type C was a fearsome killer, while type B was fatal *some*
times, and type A *could* kill someone, but usually just is a nuisance
that occasionally flares up.
So, maybe there is a medical reason that the Judds could tour for a
year after the discovery of a "life-threatening" disease. I dunno....

| Having seen the Judds on their farewell tour (drove from
Nashua to Warwick RI) I am keenly interested in this
note.
I shook both Naomi and Wynonna's hand, urging the mother
to continue writing for her daughter (she does you know)
and bolstered Wynonna who admitted she "would need
a lot of support" for her solo efforts.
They were both beautiful and worth climbing over people
to see. They shook a lot of hands let me tell you.
Wynonna's new song (premiered on American Music Awards)
is wonderful. It's called SHE IS HIS ONLY NEED.
The folks I watched it with were spellbound. Very moving
performance especially as the "sick" mom cried during
the whole thing, often mouthing the words when the
camera was on her.
It was a moment in country music (american music) I
won't seen forget.
Bye the way, The Judds tour was the biggest sellout
last year, breakign many records according to all
news flashes I heard this week.
I thought these two were pure camp, but love them now.
Mom meant to be famous and was urged to join forces
with her daughter. How saw her career as singer
is finished.
Wynonna, well, she is great - even without momma Judd.
Still can't believe I actually touched and conversed
with the two of them - within a few feet of their bus.
God bless both of them....they can take my money and
run....
