78.0. "Kiss" by SELL1::FAHEL (Amalthea Celebras/Silver Unicorn) Tue Nov 26 1991 09:08

What a lousy way to start a topic.

Eric Carr, the drummer that replaced Peter Criss, died of cancer.

I've always kinda liked Kiss...all versions. Their "make-up" days
songs are as good as their "post make-up" ones. They are consistant
    (and LOUD!) ;^)

I really am only familiar with their alive album. After hearing that,
I never liked them in a studio.

I remember watching them on the Midnight Special. This would have been after
the release of their first album. I think they did Firehouse and Duece, but
it was a longggg time ago.

Did anyone see them on that Halloween special which ran in 1976?
They did Detroit Rock City and Black Diamond. Most excellent.

the most underrated group of all time. They never get the respect they
    deserve.
78.7TFH::TOMAOFri Aug 19 1994 09:3714
It is difficult to gain respect when you wear more make-up than Tammy
    Faye.

but I must agree with you - I grew up on Kiss (Dang wish I could make
those lightening bolts on the tube) and remember one reason I started
really listening to them was because older people and adults were
    always trashing them.

I give them lots of credit for their lyrics, my intro to heavy metal
and their stage presence at a time when few bands spent much on
costumes, staging, lighting and of course those pyrotechnics.

I don't know about the most dissed band ever, but I agree that they
didn't (don't?) get the credit they deserved. I liked in particular the
first four albums. After a while, I kind of lost track of their stuff,
but I think they played *GREAT* Rock'n'Roll!

Personally, I could never get passed the makeup and Gene Simmons
"tongue work" to fully appreciate the music. Funny, I was just thinking
of this the other day for some reason. They did contribute a lot to the
music of the time, however. (Not to mention pointy-headstock guitars...
:-)) At the time I was more into Rush, UFO, and the like. Still am.

I will say that after seeing the latter-day Kiss, Gene should have kept
   the makeup on. :-)

If it wasn't for Alice Cooper's original ideas, Kiss would be washing
    dishes in Mel's Diner.

Well, guess you could say the same thing about old 'Coop. Ever heard of
Arthur Brown and Screaming Jay Hawkins? But I guess AC would be digging
graves outside his dads church...
