77.0. "The Raspberries" by VCSESU::MOSHER::COOK (Schizofrenchfryica!) Mon Nov 25 1991 13:31

    I may shock a few veterans of this conference with this topic
    being the headbanger that I am, but am I the only person that
    remembers and likes the Rasberries?

    Eric Carmen's old band. Their biggest hits were "Go All the Way",
    "I Want to be With You", "Overnight Sensation", and others.

    I don't know what it is about them, but for some reason I've
    always loved their stuff since I was a wee nipper. Their last
    release was in 1974 with "Starting Over" which is probably
    my favorite release, although I do have all of them. I recently
    got the Capitol Collectors Series on them which is highly
    reccomended if you like them.

    So am I the only one?

77.2Raspberries ahead of their time...CARTUN::BDONOVANMark Farner's guitar techTue Nov 26 1991 09:4821

    I like the Raspberries....

    I remember the liner notes of their greatest hits album said
    that the band was a very tense unit....lots of in-fighting, etc.
    Apparently everyone had different musical tastes and coming
    to a consensus on anything was very difficult.

    I remember something aobut the lead guitar player wishing he
    was in Free. That struck me as funny because I always thought
    the opening chord progression of "Please Go All the Way"
    sounded an awful lot like Free's "All Right Now."

    The world wasn't ready for the Raspberries' retro-mod,
    pop sound in 1972. If they had emerged just five years later
    in and around the Cars and the Knack, etc., etc., they would
    have been a lot bigger than they were.

    FWIW,

    	I too loved them and still have a few old albums kicking
    	around.

    	Eric Carmen went solo and still pops up on occasion. He
    	did one of the songs in "Dirty Dancing" - though I can't
    	remember the title right now .....

    	Great group!

    the Grassroots... now they were good too!

    I like'em too, Peter. I found a Rhino disc, (3 inch), with four songs
    on it. Eric was inspired into music by The Beatles.

    Sort of a Beatle sound, eh?

77.10RASPBERRIES ECSTASYSUBSYS::GODINThu Feb 25 1993 11:5412
    Of course !!! The Raspberries were great !!! I saw them live in NJ back
        in '73.
        Did they do a song called "Ecstasy" or something like that, towards
    the
        latter part of their endeavors ?
        They remind me of Bad Finger etc. another somewhat under
    appreciated
        pop band. ("I tell ya', I don't get no respect.")
        I'm biased though, I also like The Knack, The Records, The
    Romantics,
        The Scooters (Knack clone !!!) & a slew of others that most people
        laugh at. -Paul

    Speaking of Bad Finger, I just got a new disc of their's with the first
    time ever release on CD of "NO MATTER WHAT", which was written for them
    by Paul McCartney.

77.12NILLSON WHO ???SUBSYS::GODINMon Mar 01 1993 10:446
    Speaking of speaking of Bad Finger, I only recently found out that they
    (Pete Hamm I think) wrote & recorded Nilson's greatest hit "Without
    You", when I was reviewing some of their stuff for cover material that
    isn't completely "burnt". I might have known that & forgotten it, but
    it should be worth at least 5 trivia points. -Paul

77.13Eric, what are you doing nowadays ?EEMELI::KUPARSAARIWed Dec 29 1993 15:517
	I was browsing my records yesterday and came across some of his
albums. Got me wondering how he is nowadays and what he's doing.

	Is there anybody out there who knows what he's been doing lately ?

    Hasn't done anything since his last two singles, Hungry Eyes (from
    Dirty Dancing) and Make Me Lose Control. Probably counting his money
    in Cleveland.
