70.0. "Iggy Pop" by FORTSC::CHABAN () Tue Nov 19 1991 20:05

    I'm not an Iggy fan per se, but he does deserve a topic. Anyone know
    which album the "Nobody called Pablo Picasso an A**hole" song is
    on?

    Sorry, I can't answer your question. I do love a few songs from
    'Here come the warm jets'. 'My Baby's on fire' comes to mind.
    This song really cranks and has to be played way up. The cover is
    rather interesting. If one looks close you'll see why it will never
    make RS's top 100 album covers. ;-)

    i've been waiting for an IGGY topic for a while...excellent!!!!!
    i'll do some digging for your answer.....personally, i believe that
    Iggy's last three albums have been his best,and i thought" Brick by
    Brick" was one of the best releases last year, still play it every
    week...that's my Friday tape for the ride home...."Instinct" was one
    of the rockinest releases in recent years as well......did'nt the
    Iggster just receive an award in Paris recently ???

70.3Repo ManMRED::SMALLERA woman run madWed Nov 20 1991 08:304
    The Pablo Picasso song is on the soundtrack to Repo Man. Its
    by a band called the Plugz.

70.4Modern LoversRGB::ROSTAll American Alien BoyWed Nov 20 1991 10:458
    The original version of "Pablo Picasso" is by Jonathan Richman. It can
    be found on the Rhino "Original Modern Lovers" CD. Originally was a
    Berserkely LP called "The Modern Lovers".

    						Brian

    P.S. The whole album is great...it has the original version of
    "Roadrunner" on it as well.

    I think you have Iggy confused with Brian Eno, Jim!
70.6ICS::CROUCHJim Crouch 223-1372Wed Nov 20 1991 10:5510
    Yes, you are quite right. I did mean Brian Eno. Brain dead.
    It happens now and then and is a good example of a long lost
    lifestyle that comes back to haunt me now and then. ;-)

    Oh well, still enjoy the tune.

    Eno, Bowie, Mott, somewhat interchangeable then and now.

    Iggy Pop did not do "Pablo Picasso" on the Repo Man soundtrack, but he
    did do the title track "Repo Man." "Pablo Picasso" was done by The
    Burning Sensations (I believe Jonathan Richman did the original).

    Saw a girl on the plane with an Iggy record but failed to ask which
    one it was! I happened to have the original J. Richmond and the Modern
    Lovers album with Pablo Picasso. YES the whole album is great too!

    Just got to say - having just found this note and ploughed thru the
    replies, you all ought to go and listen to Iggy's Funhouse album and
    then reconsider the purpose of this one, and of yourselves and those
    around you, to boot...

    Personally, I've always preferred "Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy",
    especially J J Cale's cover of "Heartbreak Hotel".

    His two best in my opinion: "Soldier" and "Five Foot One"

    "Funhouse" is great, too. CCR on acid...

    Girls is the name of it.

    	I prefered The Stooges over Iggy Pop solo, they may have been the
    among the true founders of "alternate" music. Fun House is OK, but
    I liked their earlier release. "1969" "I Wanna be your Dog",
    "Little Doll", "No Fun","Alright".....

    	Was that really 24 years ago, you all must be getting old ;*)

    D'oh! That's right - I got the name of the single, not the LP - I
    meant to say "Soldier" and "New Values" are my favorites of his. Wish
    I could get 'em on CD.

    "I'm Bored," "Mr. Dynamite," "I'm a Conservative," "Five Foot One,"
    all classic stuff...
70.26Iggster's new one!!!!SVCRUS::MCNAMARAstrange visitor.....Thu Sep 23 1993 08:4914
    ...just picked up Iggy's new one.."American Caesar"...not bad..only
    listened to it once, but it's alot more "looser" than "Brick by
    Brick"....if that makes any sense....what's cool about it is that on
    the inside cover there's a copy of a hand-written letter (paragraph)
    from Iggy saying to wrote to him, tell him what yoy think about the new
    release, and he'll write back...maybe i could ask him over for dinner
    some night, have him meet the little woman......nahhh, on second
    thought, maybe not...I will post a more in-depth review within a few
    days....anyone else get the new Iggy??????

    p.s. i also heard Iggy's touring with Living Color....
