| Steve Tyler's home in Marshfield burnt to the ground today. His
daughter and wife (who is 8 months pregnant) escaped from the second
story of their home using a chain ladder. Steve sprained his ankle and
is on crutches. There were no other reported injuries but the house and
its contents were destroyed.
Not much of a Christmas present, was it?

| Stephen Tyler is "married with children"???!!!
Perhaps this is another case (exactly like David Lee Roth) where the
image presented is purely for public consumption, but I've heard this
guy tell stories of sexual exploits on MTV that a normal person would
not want a wife to hear.
Without going into detail, Stephen Tyler practically bragged about
being in the "high risk" category for HIV infection.

businessman. Which, of course, he is.

There are pictures of Tyler in today's Herald.
He is carrying a cat out of the fire and doesn't look like he
sprained his ankle.
Additionally, both the Herald and the Globe report that the
fire was contained to the first-floor kitchen. No one reports the
house as being "burned to the ground."
It looks like I'm rapidly becoming a self-appointed critic of
truth in rock journalism. Why does everything have to be
inflated? To sell newspapers and magazines, I suppose.
Bob Greene, a syndicated columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, toured
with Alice Cooper in the 70s and wrote a very interesting, straight
jornalism book about the experience. There is at least one description
of the group's manager preparing completely phony press releases
to "keep public interest up."
Particularly funny is a scene in NY city where Alice is recording in
the Record Plant. A NY radio station interviews him over the
phone and everyone in the studio has to keep very quiet because
Alice is allegedly calling in from a big fishing boat off the
Bahamas... all to add to the glamorous rock star image.
Sometimes I feel like that old guy that Dana Carvey plays on
Saturday Night Live:
"Back then we didn't have press agents and fancy-schmancy managers,
and we didn't lie to the papers, we just told the truth and it
was boring and we LIKED IT!"

Rolling Stones "bad boy image" was complete fabrication. The Beatles
goodie image had them scrambling for old pictures and other
incriminating evidence that life in Hamburg breeds.
Conjuring up those clean wholesome jokers from late 50's early 60's to
perform that sinful music.
Things being not what they seem is a very old gig indeed!

| Regarding my report about Tyler's house being a total loss: (OK, I
used "burned to the ground" instead of total loss. I suggest we start a
new note and discuss this distinction in excruciating detail.)
Anyway, the part about the house being a "total loss" and about Tyler's
ankle came directly from a phone interview of Tyler by Mark Parenteau
of 'BCN at approx 4:20 yesterday. He stated that he had just returned
home from the hospital, told about his injury and the fact that no one
else was injured and described the house and conctents as, and I quote,
"all gone".
If anyone wants to challenge the truth of Tyler's claim or the ability
of my ears to hear, that's your prerogitive. Frankly, ... never mind.

| Ankle sprains are funny - you can do it and not know it for
hours.
The standard mistake is that you sprain your ankle playing ball, say
"eh, not that bad, I'll keep playing" and you pay for it dearly
later.
db - unfortunately an expert on ankle sprains
p.s. Bri - the only part of your note that I doubted was that he
was married and had kids.
C'mon - you don't REALLY expect me to believe THAT do you????

50.12 | Put the big spin on everything... | CARTUN::ALCOS2::BDONOVAN | Floyd Snead's drum tech | Mon Dec 23 1991 15:55 | 27 |
| Mr. Markey:
I wasn't making any claims about your ability to hear....or the
distinctions of disaster.
Seriously! I didn't mean anything personally...I just have to laugh
at the exaggerations that colors the press these days.
And Tyler's comments on 'BCN! C'mon, no one expects Steve Tyler
to play it straight. "All lost, man" is far more dramatic than,
"We had a grease fire in the kitchen."
In Saturday's Boston Globe, Tyler *did* poke fun at himself by
saying, "I guess we need a new kitchen." The sprained ankle
thing has been reported again, so maybe there's truth there.
I'm an aging skeptic, what can I say? It amuses...and saddens...
me to see the "big spin" put on everything the media touches.
And Tyler? Well, he's playing to his audience, whether in a concert
situation, a video, or a radio interview. He wants to impress
(rightfully so) the young guns that listen to 'BCN, and he did
a good job. He's an entertainer....
Take care, no flames intended,
Brian

to the Kitchen.

50.15 | Great show at Great Woods, Mansfield, MA | PMRV70::HEAFEY | This is a test. For the next 80 yrs | Mon Aug 30 1993 11:24 | 28 |
| Great show Friday night at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA. The sound was
better than I've heard it in a while there and the band seemed right
on.
Other than Tyler sticking his face in the cameras all night, there
seemed to be a total lack hype. To me, the show had a very "loose"
feel to it. Almost as if I was seeing them in a small club or on a
high school stage.
Highlights for me:
o Opening - "Eat the Rich".
o Closing - Sort of a medely sandwiched in between "Train Kept a
Rollin'" (sp?). The band's still chuggin' along.
o The first few moments of Brad Whitford's solo - A tribute to SRV.
Brad can play. REALLY!
o Right in the middle of a tune, Perry decides he's too hot and puts
his guitar down on the drum riser, takes his shirt off and ties it
around his waste, then starts playing again. Kept the show loose.
Dave
P.S. 4 Non-Blondes (sp?) opened. IMO, the singer should drop the rest
of the band like a bad habit. She's FAR too good.

| Hey Dave - I didn't see you there :^}
AWESOME! loved it.....we had "lawn" seats - actually woodchip seats
:^) rigt in front of center stage in front on teh screen. Most of teh
time I couldn't actually see the band - thank goodnes for the screen -
but I thought they really delivered!!! Steve Tyler did ham it up - but
hey - thast ST..... I did get a kick out of what he did during Get A
Grip....he faced the camers, lifted his shirt and written over his
belly button was Get A Grip with an arrow pinting down :^} No I don;t
find him sexy - I just enjoy watching him have fun on stage.
They only played GAG and Eat the Rich off the new album (I'm pretty
sure) and played so many old tunes!!! I was having a blast! Dream On,
Toys in the Attic, Walk This Way, Sweet Emotion, Train Kept A Rollin
and Joe Perry did do a few songs from his solo album - can't rememeber
the names of the tunes - I'm terrible about that.
4 non-blonds were entertaining - though I did sit through their show -
saving my energy for The Bad Boys of Boston :^) which I needed since I
stood/danced sang/screamed through the whole show :^)

Yowza! just a short trip report on the New Years eve festivities at
the show:
Being a veteran concert goer since the 60's, I have to say this was
one of the best performances I've attended in a while, especially the
theatrics! the peak had to be when old man time rode down from the
ceiling on a Harley revving it up all the way across the garden,
what a site 8^) immediately followed by a shower of balloons and
confetti all while Jammin' Good show guys, keep on keepin!

Just reading this topic for the first time and noticed in .18 that Joyce
mentions that Tyler was born and raised in Mass. I was under a different
opinion that Joe Perry and Steven Tyler grew up together in Sunapee N.H. ?
I'm just going from what I've heard from different sources, anyone know
the real story ?
Another question, will one be able to purchase a cold beer at their Great

Joe Perry sat in with Lettermans' band the past three nights. He
was playing an OUTRAGEOUSLY flamed ('59 Reissue?) Les Paul through
a Fender Tone Master or two.
Btw, Dave noticed a couple of sailors in the audience (one is from
Wilmington, MA) and led them to a Times Sq strip joint where he told
them they SHOULD be on their first night back in port. He even bought
them beers. At the end of the show, the credits rolled past the two
sailors passed out on the table.
