Customer uses Common_agent on Digital Unix V3.2G. According to him he has to use the common agent because System Monitor requires it. This was working fine until one day snmp_pe failed to start (for reasons unknown ). The entry in deamon.log: Mar 14 10:47:35 cfaxp snmp_pe?1286U: M215 - Unable to acquire host information Error 0 occurred.', errno = 22--unrecoverable: snmp_pe exiting If he uses snmpsetup to start the deamon, then deamon.log also containd other components : Mar 14 10:57:15 cfaxp mold?1402U: mold (V1.10) initialization complete Mar 14 10:57:15 cfaxp internet_mom?1411U: internet_mom - Initialization complete... Mar 14 10:57:15 cfaxp fddi_mom?1414U: fddi_mom - Initialization complete... Mar 14 10:57:16 cfaxp trn_mom?1417U: TRN_MOM: No token ring interface -trn_mom exiting Mar 14 10:57:16 cfaxp snmp_pe?1420U: M215 - Unable to acquire host information Error 0 occurred.', errno = 22--unrecoverable: snmp_pe exiting I have read entry 265.* . His host name is not > 32 bytes. The host name is cfaxp.au.ibm.com. Advise on what else to look for would be greatly appreciated. Andrew

a) You customer should be using snmpd, not common agent (snmp_pe). Please ask in NOTED::NETVIEW if there is really any requirement for Common Agent when using system monitor. I believe the answer is no. b) snmp_pe is reporting invalid argument (errno=22) to the gethostbyname() call. This arument is the result of a gethostname() call. This same value is returned by the "hostname" command. So find out what is returned by hostname. It's probably bogus. Mike | |||||

System Monitor is not a part of NetView. It is an agent extension for system monitoring, sold on its own. I believe that IBM built it with Common Agent. Presumably IBM should be upgrading it to use eSNMP. Is the support request here coming from IBM? |
