| Dave,
My daughter sucked her index and middle fingers on her left hand up
until last month (she is 4). She is right handed. Alicia started
sucking her fingers when she was 9 months old so I don't know if she
picked her left hand because she would eventually be right handed..

| Nope, no significance ...
We have a 7 year old thumb sucker ... she's right handed and has always
been, and sucks usually the left thumb ... but if her left hand is busy
she's been known to suck her right.

| My 20 month old daughter has sucked her left thumb exclusively ever
since she found it. I know it's early but I think she's showing right
handed tendencies. I'm a lefty and my husband is a righty so which
ever way she goes, is fine with us. BTW, it's not that bad being a
lefty (as she looks at her mouse on the RIGHT side of her workstation!)
it makes us more adaptable.

1356.4 | Which way do they sleep? y | CSTEAM::WRIGHT | | Fri Apr 10 1992 14:30 | 6 |
| My unscientific theory is that it's related to which direction they
face when sleeping in the early months. When an infant is put down to
sleep on his stomach, he will probably seem to favor facing right (with
his left ear on the pillow) or facing left (with his right ear on the
mattress.) My son liked to face left, so found his left thumb first,
and that became his habit.

| Oh great! Now I'm worried. Kayla just quit sucking her thumb two
weeks ago and has started sucking her toes. Both feet. Sometimes at
the SAME TIME.
What is to become of this child.
(smiles) but its true
