| I read that it lasts about 6 months after giving birth and sure enough,
that's exactly how long it seemed to last for me.

| I did not experience any noticable hair loss after delivery.....
However, during pregnancy, my hair color did darken quite a bit.

Does this have anything to do with the ones the baby pulls out on
you???
If so, I must have lost a ton by now! My son always catches me JUST
before I swing my hair around to my back (its med length), and holds
on tight! My mom said this weekend its time for me to start putting it
in a ponytail...(doesn't look right on me!)
Oh well!
I also heard your hair can darker too after having a baby, color wise?
Anyone notice this? Mine is blond, and someone the other day told me
it looks darker...(no!!!)

1291.4 | happened to me | KAOFS::M_FETT | alias Mrs.Barney | Tue Jan 28 1992 15:35 | 23 |
| Funny, I never knew about this, and starting 3 months after delivery,
I started noticing hair all over my clothes. The dermatologist
was quite sure this is a result of childbirth.
Normally, she explained, there is a growth/loss cycle that each
follicle goes through. Since they are all in different cycles, you
average a few hairs falling out all the time. During pregnancy,
most of the follicles go into the growth part of the cycle, then
about three months later they all (or a larger percentage than normal
anyway) go into the loss part of the cycle.
She said it could last up until 6 months - in my case it had lasted
only 3 months until I again became pregnant. Now, I find the loss
is about normal, maybe less (i.e. more growth than normal) - which
is a typical pregnancy side-effect, as explained above.
She said that each person may have a slightly differnent varient
on this pattern (some pregnant women do not experience a quicker or
thicker hair growth than normal -- these are less likely to experience
the loss for the same reason).
The things you learn...

Yup, right about 3-4 months my hair started coming out in clumps!!!
I've noticed it has slown up considerably lately and it's been almost
6 months since it started. I can't wait for it to grow back in, my hair
just seems so much thinner than I'm used to.

1291.6 | 6 months - and I've finally stopped shedding! | VERGA::STEWART | Caryn....Perspective is Everything! | Tue Jan 28 1992 16:15 | 12 |
| Yup - it's been 6 months and 5 days, and sure enough my hair doesn't come
out in gobs when I run my hands through it.
For a while there I felt like a moulting bird or something! I look forward
to gaining some of it back now!
And even though it's relatively short, "Junior" seems to have no
trouble finding those little short ones at the back of my neck to hold on
to. So having long hair doesn't seem any more of a liability in this
respect.

I don't think I lost a single strand of hair during my entire pregnancy
or first three months post-partum. My hair was so thick I couldn't get
a brush through it.
Then - bingo - right around three months post partum all the hair decided
to jump off my head at the same time. I was shedding worse than the dog.
That stage lasted around 4 or 5 months and then my hair returned to a
normal lifecycle.

| For 6 months after my little guy was born, I was so relieved to see
that I wasn't having the hair loss that I had heard so much about. But
then, from 6 to 12 months, it happened. Tons of hairs in my brush
every morning. Luckily my hair is naturally very thick, so it didn't
look too bad being somewhat thinner. But I had to keep checking my
shoulders all day to make sure I didn't look like I was shedding!
I also noticed, starting at this time, a few grays making an
appearance. Did anyone else first get gray hairs after pregnancy?

| Oh, yes, gray hairs. I started getting gray hairs after Eric
was born. Luckily, all the gray hairs are hiding under. Therefore,
not too many people have noticed. With my son, I didn't notice
any hair loss. With my daughter I lost tons of hairs. Maybe I
am getting old....

I once read that it is "in" to welcome your first born and first grey
hairs together! Just to sort of say you are ready for both!

| I noticed tremendous hair loss after my second pregnancy - as with
previous replies, it didn't really start until 3-4 months postpartum,
and was quite evident in the form of bald spots near my temples.
Luckily I was still taking prenatal vitamins due to breastfeeding, and
the hair quickly grew in....
And definitely a lot more grey after the second.

| My hair fell out in clumps for a full year after my son was born. It
has stopped now and is back to normal. I am so glad that I have very
thick hair or I am sure I would be just about bald by now. I would
find hair covering my pillow case in the morning and after washing my
hair in the shower the tub would be full of it.
I was really getting concerned when it went on so long. I can see
where the hair is growing back now though.

| My first pregnancy did not notice any hair loss. Second pregnancy
tremendous hair loss. Max is five months and I have been losing my
hair for the past two months. After I take a shower and I squeeze the
water out of my hair I usually get a handfull...my hair is very thick
so it is not noticeable just annoying. Also, my hair is auburn and it
gets darker after each pregnancy.

I've been noticing the "hair loss" quite a bit this month, and its
getting more aggravating for me than anything. Luckily my hair is very
thick so its not noticeable, but everytime I turn around I am pulling
my hairs off of Michael (4 months old), or the couch, or the chair, or
the sink, etc, etc... I blowdry it every morning and it's been coming
out in clumps when I do. And it does seem to be getting darker too.
(blond)
Oh well!
