1176.0. "A sad story" by SCAACT::RESENDE (Digital is not thriving on chaos.) Tue Oct 15 1991 23:24

    A couple who go to our church recently lost a child.  They had gone
    through 8 years of infertility agony, and she finally managed to get
    pregnant.  The baby, a boy named Garrett, was born with a serious heart
    defect.  After four operations, he died at the age of three months. 
    His mother wrote this poem.
    
    Steve
    
                             A PRECIOUS GIFT
    
    Our gift grew from a tiny seed,
    For us he filled a yearning need.
    He was to be a special child,
    With disposition sweet and mild.
    
    It was apparent from the start
    There was a problem with his heart.
    Around him was a special glow,
    As though his time was marked below.
    
    Four times the surgeons vainly tried
    To mend his heart, as our hearts cried.
    The angels came and ripped a hole;
    Left wreckage in our inner soul.
    
    For three short months we had him here,
    So little time to hold him near.
    His bright blue eyes and smiling face
    Would touch a heart, a sacred place.
    
    To think he'll never laugh and play
    Like other children do each day.
    It's almost more than we can bear
    To watch him go up heaven's stair.
    
    His life with us would be so brief;
    His death filled us with crushing grief,
    Leaving us with pain and sorrow,
    With great hopes to join tomorrow.
    
    But time heals all is what some say,
    So we are grateful for each day.
    A precious gift from God above
    Showed us a special kind of love.

	What can one say .... It's heart breaking and sympathies must go out to this couple. It is true that time is a great healer ... It will never fill this gap, but you know, sometimes as painful as it seems this baby was not meant to be. I can only hope that they have the strength to try again, and with hope and prayers this will be successful.

	I have printed this, and will be giving it to the family next door whose niece lost one of her twin boys under similar circumstances recently. I've been at a loss for words to say something to them. Maybe this will help them. Such beauty in the words!

	Sitting here with tears in my eyes after reading this poem. Words are so very powerful and I wish only for the best for this couple in their time of sorrow. Time to remember what is really important in life... -Patty

	That is beautiful. I will be extracting it and giving it to my best friend whom I'm sure will shead a few tears as I did. He and his wife lost their 2 year old son after the 5th operation. This one was close to home as Bob is like a brother to me. I'm sure they will appreciate it too. My compliments to the author. Mark

	AAhhh Contrare, the baby was meant to be and did very much exist. The albeit short life will be treasured by this mommy and daddy, they will speak of this child as theirs as it truly was and the grief will be felt and the tears will be shed and without a shadow of a doubt the love for this child will never deminish nor will it ever die. The baby will be there in heaven to great mommy and daddy, with open arms and they will be able to hug, love and nurture one another. Peace, Mike
