| Empty the unused water in the humidifier EVERY DAY. Do not use it with
water that has been sitting.
At night, I just fill ours with tap water.
I clean my humidifier about twice a season (winter), using regular dish washing
liquid and warm water.
I clean the baby's humidifier about once a week because it seems to get
grungy more quickly. (It's a different make and model ... a cheaper one.
I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.)

I'm also looking for more current info. A note created in 1988 may no

| re: Cleaning the humidifer using Bleach. I clean my humidifer with
bleach at least once a month. The instructions that came it said to
place tape over the nozzles to keep the water and mist from coming out
and run the machine for approximately an hour. I have not had a
problem with this yet. I do not clean it in my daughters room.

We clean ours on a weekly basis. I use just soap and water.
No problems so far.

| I clean Sam's every week. (But change the water every other night).
I use white vinegar diluted with water and wash the whole thing.
Pieces and all.
I have a friend who uses diluted hydrogen peroxide to clean hers.
Seems to work fine for her.

1174.9 | Vaporizer - what kind??? | AIMHI::SJOHNSON | | Mon Nov 11 1991 12:58 | 15 |
| Hi,
I am looking to purchase a vaporizer or Humidifier for my 4 month old
daughter. Does anyone out there have any recommendations on brands or
types?
We (my husband & I) had a bad experience w/ a humidifier & mold spores
a couple years ago w/ a brand new unit that we had only used twise.
I'm wondering if they've gotten any better?
Thanks in advance,
Sonia
P.S. Tried directory for this topic - but couldn't find anything under
vaporizer.

1174.10 | how to remove bleach odor from humdifier | ASABET::HABER | kudos to working mothers | Tue Nov 12 1991 11:45 | 19 |
| I have a question -- we have a very simple humidifier that i use in my
kids' rooms [it goes from one room to another, depending on who needs
it the most -- i WILL buy a second one this year!]. anyway, i decided
to clean it out this weekend and put a little bleach in with the water
and ran it outside for about 30 minutes. Well, now i can't seem to get
rid of the chlorine smell. I've rinsed and rinsed it out, it's been
two days and the smell is getting less but it's still very obvious.
Any suggestions? Will the smell harm my daughter -- who has it this
week because of a cold? -- i leave her door open all the way so air
will circulate better. she's not complaining about the smell -- maybe
because her nose is so stuffed! -- but of the "noise" (of course this
was an hour after she was supposed the be asleep!) -- but it's
bothering us parents.
Thanks -- please respond outside of notes -- i don't read these too
often these daze.

1174.11 | Bonaire!! | FSOA::EFINIZIO | | Tue Nov 12 1991 14:49 | 14 |

Quick response to 1174.9. We recently bought a warm-mist
humidifier by Bonaire. So far, I love it. It's fairly large
for the babies room, so I don't have to fill it up as much.
And it doesn't emit the white dust that the cool air humidifiers
do. You have to clean the base every refill, but it's really
easy to do. I guess these days, the cool-mist with the cartridges
are once frowned upon, where they used to be the best thing since
apple pie! To much mildrew and mold builds up on them. So far
I'm pretty happy with the Bonaire.
Good luck in your search,
Ellen
