1116.0. "Sticker Residue on Laundered Shirt" by ALLVAX::CREAN () Wed Aug 28 1991 09:15

Several of my nephew's shirts managed to go through the washer & dryer with
stickers still attached.

Anybody know how to get the sticker residue out without taking the color
out of the shirts ? Both are bright colors (red & green).

Thanks,
- Terry

1116.1No, I am not an Amway Distributor!WMOIS::BARR_LBut HE knows ME better!Wed Aug 28 1991 11:155
    Try getting your hands on some LOC (Amway). It works really well on
    removing sticker residue of off glass, so I assume that it would work
    on clothing as well.

1116.2No success, just careful checkingJAWS::TRIPPWed Aug 28 1991 11:3513
    I've heard that an ice cube placed on the *other* side of the sticky
    stuff, and when it's hard is "supposed" to be scraped or flaked off.

    My success, however has been nil. I've just had to start being
    *extremely* aware of when he comes home with a sticker on his shirt,
    and retracing steps by checking shirts again as they actually go into
    the washer.

    For me, any ideas of how to get Elmer's school glue residue off a white
    tee shirt? So far nothing has worked from bleach in the water, to
    hot and cold water.

1116.3Lestoil works for meCTHQ3::SANDSTROMborn of the starsWed Aug 28 1991 12:008
    If the fabric is washable and colorfast you can use Lestoil.
    I've used it successfully in the past to remove sticky residue
    from my own clothes after they've been through the washer and
    the dryer. Just pour some on the sticky area and let it sit
    for a while (I just keep that item for the last load of laundry).
    If there's no nap you can scrub it a little to remove some of
    the sticky material before you through it in the wash again.

Other products you might try are De-Solv-It, a citrus-based product,
and "Oops", primarily sold as a latex paint remover but very effective
at removing spots and residue from many different kinds of surfaces.
Both can be found in hardware stores.

    My mother in law got some great stuff at the hardware store. It's
    called Goo be gone...We were at their house last Sunday and went for a
    walk and were collecting pine cones. When we got back to the house, we
    had sap all over us. Just a few drops of the stuff and it was gone.

    She has also used it to get stickers off of glass jars. You know the
    kind that you soak for days, and they still don't come off.

    Good luck!!!

    Another vote for Goo-Be-Gone. I washed and dried my son's tee shirt
    with a sticker on it and the glue looked permanent. My mom got it off
    in just a few seconds with Goo-Be-Gone. No stain either.
