| I was going to suggest the very thing you mentioned at the end of your
note. I feel it may be the heat. I know here in Dallas it has been
over 100 degrees this week and my son (10 months) has been the same
way. He hasn't eaten as much as he usually does. Actually, I have
felt like that too.
I would say that if it keeps up, to call your pedi and ask, just for
your peace of mind.

1033.2 | normal slowdown might be a factor | TLE::RANDALL | | Thu Jul 18 1991 10:13 | 5 |
| Many kids get a big drop in appetite at about 5-7 months of age,
also. Their rate of growth slows down and they don't need as much
food.

1033.3 | Will not eat | CSC32::K_LAFRANCE | | Tue Nov 12 1991 13:04 | 12 |
| I need some suggestions....
My nine month old daughter has decided that she doesn't want to "eat".
All she wants is her bottle. When you try to feed her anything she
clamps her lips closed and no amount of teasing, tickling, airplane,
etc will get her to open her lips. She doesn't do good with finger
foods, she chokes on just about everything. Her Pedi keeps saying that
she will eat when she's hungry, but no matter how hungry she is she
will not drink from the sippy or eat food. I end up giving in and
letting her have the bottle.

I know exactly what you mean, my daughter now 7 months old went through
the same thing at 6 months. She went on a hunger strike I called it.
She wouldn't eat anything, but my doctor wasn't worried as long as she
drank her bottle. Is she on milk or formula? How many bottles does
she have a day? I thought maybe I was drowning her appetite in
formula, but about a week later she was back to her old self. Now all
she wants is table food. The only time I give her baby food is at
dinner time. Does she have any teeth? Usually the gums are hard
enough to chew soft things. My daughter loves grilled cheese.
Good Luck!

| hi,
she normally drinks about 30-40 ozs of formula. lately it's been 40-50
ounces of formula and little to no food. I talked to her "nanny" today
and she said that she will eat a little homemade soup during the day.
she will feed her the broth from her sippy (she wears most of it) and
mash up the veggies. she will eat a spoon or two of the veggies and
then refuse to eat, but drink an 8 ounce bottle.
I'm not sure what to do. She refuses to eat "baby food". She was
eatting mashed table food (potatoes, veggies, applesauce, etc), now she
doesn't even want table food. Last night my husband did get her to eat
ice cream.

| I went through this same thing with my son. He would not eat a thing.
He'd only take milk. I spoke to the pedi about it and he said "when
he gets hungry enough, he'll eat". Well, he was right, it took awhile
but then he sure made up for lost time (wait till the teens!).
B.T.W. he's now a very healthy 6ft. tall 19 year old in the Air Force.

| Could the baby be teething again? The teeth may not be bothersome enough to
create fussiness, but may just cause lack of desire to chew.
Just a thought...

| My son always seems to lose his appetite when a tooth is coming in.
Sandy, I think you're right, chewing hurts the tooth coming in, so they
just don't chew!!!
It should pass, but keep an eye on it and inform your doctor if it
becomes worrisome.

| Allison always stops eating when a tooth is coming in. She won't even
eat soft or mushed food. Maybe she figures if one food hurts her mouth
then all food will hurt, and she stops eating. It only lasts a short
time though, (a few weeks).

| A side comment - a couple of years ago, I cut a tooth. One of my
wisdom teeth broke through finally - it had been below the surface
minding its own business until then. For about 3 days I was _not_
a happy camper - not only did that part of my mouth notice, but it
was a challenge to even open my mouth enough to get food in at all.
I can vouch first hand that cutting a tooth on one side can have a
definate bad affect on the whole mouth...
Definately gave me a healthy appreciation for what my kids are
going though. :-)
