935.0. "Bleeding Cervix" by NYTP06::ZINA () Thu May 30 1991 11:14

I did a dir/title but couldn't find anything relating to my problem.

I am 29 weeks pregnant and have a bleeding cervix. The first time this
happened the doctor told me that it was a yeast infection and
prescribed a cream. I used the cream and the bleeding went away... or
so I thought. Earlier this week there was more bleeding so I went in
to see the doctor. He said it still looks like an infection and that's
why the cervix is bleeding so again he prescribed a cream. He assured
me that it was not serious.

I'm sorry but any bleeding while pregnant to me seems serious. It is
very scary to see blood everytime I go to the ladies room. I'm going
to call the doctor again but I'm afraid he's just going to tell me the
same thing... Has anyone else had this problem? The baby's heartbeat
is very strong and it moves all the time. I'm fine as well except for
the bleeding so that is a bit of a consolation. I'm still concerned
    though.

While my sister was pregnant she had started bleeding. The problem
ended up being that the baby was breaking veins. Each time this
happened they would go to the hospital. Well the doctor decided to do
an ultrasound and see what was going on and that is when they saw the
    baby in action.

I too had bleeding while pregnant with my first. I was 27 weeks along
and was sent to the hospital for an ultra sound. No problem was
detected and I only had one other occurance and again another ultra
sound, an internal exam and no problem was found. I had a healthy,
    8lb. 10 oz. baby girl!

Don't feel bad about "second guessing" your doctor. I changed Dr.'s in
my third month because I did not agree with or feel comfortable with
that Dr. It dosen't hurt to get a second opinion to alleviate your
    worry. I would.

    Good Luck!

Also, the cervix becomes very soft during pregnancy. Sexual intercourse or
an internal exam could cause bleeding of the cervix.

I also had two episodes of bleeding. As in reply.3, my cervix was very
soft and something as simple as a hard sneeze would trigger it. After
numerous trips to the Dr., I finally accepted that this was just part
of my pregnancy and relaxed. I ended up with a wonderful and healthy
baby girl last March. I know it's worrisome and I hope these few words
    provide some comfort to you.

Just an update.... I went to the doctor on Friday, he checked my blood
pressure (100/64), my weight (I gained another 2 lbs), swelling (my
feet were a little swollen), baby heartbeat (normal.. very strong), and
then he did an internal exam. The minute he put the speculum (I think
this is what it's called) a gush of blood started oozing. I think he
thought I was making it up the whole time. Anyway he sent me for a
sonogram immediately and told me to stay off my feet when I got home.
So now I'm home off my feet waiting for the results of the sonogram.
The baby is fine, we think that it is just me. I'll let you know what
    happens.

    Zina,

Good Luck - Do whatever the doctor says - at 29 weeks, you can see the
'end of the tunnel' and this will make it easier if you must stay in
bed for the rest of the pregnancy..

Keep us informed - we care !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Update....

The bleeding continued over the weekend and got really heavy on
Sunday. I panicked and called the doctor. He told me to get into bed
and not get out until he called with the Sonogram results. I was in
bed until Monday afternoon when he called. There is no sign of
placenta previa and the baby is coming along fine. He said that the
blood vessels on the cervix are so inflamed that any irritation will
cause them to bleed. He told me to rest for another day and then I
    could go back to work.

Basically I figure it will probably continue to bleed up until delivery
and I'm just going to have to live with it. Of course he said if it
continued to bleed heavily I would have to stay in bed for the
    remaining 11/10 weeks.

Thanks so much for all your support... it really helped.

    Thanks,
    Zina
935.8Bleeding from the Cervix PENUTS::IBR4::BOLANDThu Jun 06 1991 13:2915
Hi Zina,

Just thought I would also let you know that I too starting spotting (not
exactly bleeding heavy) about two months before my due date. I had ultra-
sounds and also an internal exam. My doctor told me that I was bleeding from
the cervix and that there was nothing wrong with my pregnancy.

Well, two months later (plus 13 days), I was late, I delivered a beautiful,
healthy 7 lb. 5 oz. baby girl.

Try to relax and do what the doctor says. I was extremely careful and did
exactly what the doctor said. I know others can do everything, but with the
spotting, I didn't want to take any chances.

P.S. I also spotted at the very beginning of my pregnancy.
