911.1 | My sister-in-law did | TANNAY::BETTELS | Cheryl, Eur. Ext. Res. Prg., DTN 821-4022 | Tue May 21 1991 05:15 | 17 |
| My sister-in-law had this problem. She ALWAYS carried twins and always
miscarried. Finally she had to have a histarectomy (sp?) (this must be about 50
years ago). During the operation they discovered she had two wombs and they
only needed to take one out. She finally was able to become pregnant at
least twice more and delivered two daughters. Both children were twins and
their twin sibling miscarried during the pregnancy (fairly early if I'm not
mistaken). I think she also lost both twins once or twice after that.
During her second pregnancy she also contracted German measles although late
enough into the preganancy that the effect on the fetus was minor if it caused
any problem at all. Monica has strong astigmatism (but then so do I and my
mother's pregnancy was completely normal :-).
I think my sister-in-law feels blessed to have been able to have children
at all.

Is fetal exposure to rubella said to cause astigmatism?
(I am very very astigmatic and am the only one in the family with it)
I have never even heard of double-uterus! is this rare?
Monica
(yes, another astigmatic Monica)

911.3 | Two or bi-cornuate? | WFOV11::MOKRAY | | Tue May 21 1991 15:24 | 7 |
| Is the condition truly that there are two separate, complete uteruses
(uteri?) or that one is split, which is called bi-cornuate (sp?). The
latter is when there is a septum or division between the two halves.
This is medically correctable via laser surgery. You may want to ask
about this. I've had experience with this kind of laser surgery;
contact me off-line if I can answer any questions. I can also
recommend an excellent doctor whatever your condition.

911.4 | Rare? | TANNAY::BETTELS | Cheryl, Eur. Ext. Res. Prg., DTN 821-4022 | Wed May 22 1991 03:38 | 12 |
| Regarding .2
I have no idea how rare it is but my sister-in-law's case was sufficiently
rare to be written up in (German) medical journals.
Also re. .2
I don't KNOW if rubella causes astigmatism but, I imagine that if it is
contracted during the formation of the eyes it could result in a deformed
eyeball which could result in astigmatism. But that's a lot of could's...

911.5 | Double Uterus | MATT::DAVIS | | Wed May 22 1991 12:12 | 18 |
| Hi,
re:3 I have two seperate Uterus's One that is normal size and the other
is smaller than normal- consequently, I can bear two fetus up to three months
apart in age... which is very possible if I were not careful when I was
already pregnant for one. They would not be twins giving the fact that they
come from two diffrent wombs. This sounds really strange- but my Doctor
thinks it's the best thing since apple pie...He is very interested in my
condition.. But did not recommend surgery... that was three years ago..
I probably should check into it further- 9 months is a long time to
be on your back- yet I feel I'm fortunate to have had a healthy baby.
also re:3 I would be interested in talking to you off line regarding this..
and Dr. recommendations.... Pls call me dtn:291-9125 or Esis::davis
Thanks, Dianne

| Speaking of strange cases... the uncle of a friend of mine had three
kidneys. The doctors loved speculating on that too.
