    This is the way I remember it, although I'm sure there are lots of 
    variations:
    
    Pattie cake, pattie cake, baker's man
    Bake me a cake as fast as you can
    Pat it and roll it and mark it with a "B"
    Put it in the oven for baby and me.
    
    
    

    Funny, my son received a musical ball with rhymes on it.  The printed
    verses read :
    
    Pat-a-cake, Pat-a-cake, baker's man
    Bake me a cake as fast as you can
    Pat it and prick and mark it with "B"
    And put in the oven for baby and me
    For baby and me, for baby and me
    And put in the oven for baby and me

    This has been a source of great debate between my wife and I...;^)
    
    She insists (being from New Jersey, doncha' know) it should be:
    
    	"Pat it & roll it, and mark it with a '(baby's first name initial)'"
    
    However, being Boston born & bred, and thus being culturally correct, I
    insist on:
    
    	"Roll it & pat it, and mark (pronounced 'mahhhk') it with a 'B'"
    
    One day, I hope she'll see the light...
    
    P.S. She also insists on calling it 'soda' instead of 'tonic'...some
    people never learn...;^)
    

    Tonic???  My father says tonic but I've always said soda (as do all
    my brothers and sisters), and I was born and raised in New England.
    
    Anyway,  I've always said, "Roll it and roll it and mahhhk it with
                                a B, and put it in the oven for 
                                Eric (or baby) and me"
    
    The other day my neighbor sang the song to Eric and said 
    "Pat it and prick it and mark it with a B"

    But if you mark it with the baby's initial, the last line will only rhyme
    if it's B, C, D, G, P, T, V, or Z.  What do you do for the other
    letters?
    
    We go with "roll it, and pat it, and mark it with a B' also, but then
    "TOSS it in the oven, for baby and me".  On the toss part, you bring
    the baby's arms up in the air -- definitely the hightlight of the game.

    Who said it needs to rhyme ?!   Rhyming is only fun if you know about
    rhyming ... hearing the initial and your own name is MUCH more fun!
    I sure respond a lot more when somebody says "Stuart" instead of "adult".
    
    "Heh you, adult!"
    
    
    
    And I knew it as (pick your own name and initial) ...
    
    "Prick it and pat it and mark it with 'U'
    and put it in the oven for Ulysses and me!"
    
    Although that doesn't make much sense but it appeals to my senses
    more than the other way around ... it flows better.
    
    I've heard roll it and pat it and many other combinations.
    
    The extra bit of a refrain ...
    
    "For baby and me, for baby and me,
    Put it in the oven for baby and me"
    
    I believe is for a sung version ...

    We used to make up other verses, and (given that the baby is
    not a harsh critic) it's easy and fun:
    
    Patty-cake, patty-cake, Pizza man,
    make me a pizza as fast as you can.
    Spread it and toss it and roll it out flat;
    We'll both eat it and we'll both get fat!

    	I remember the part about having the arms up in the air.
    	I also remember the roll it (proceed to make rolling
    	motion with baby's hands), prick it (poke ever so gently
    	into baby's belly!) and then pick up from toss it ...

    I learned the way .15 wrote it with a minor difference:
    
    "_Roll_ it and _knead_ it and mark it with a 'B'."
    
    But I usually do change it to "...mark it with a 'C'...for Caileigh and me!"
    (or P and "Paigey").

    Well, I guess I can add to this one:
    
    I say it this way with my 5 month old,but I use her feet instead of
    hands.
    
    Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake
    Bakers man,bake me a cake as fast as you can
    Roll it and roll it 
    and pat it into shape 
    Put it in the oven to bake-a-bake-a-bake.
    
    Anyway you say it, it's still fun!
