609.0. "Huggies' Pullups?" by SAHQ::FLEMINGA () Wed Jan 09 1991 14:32

    I have a nearly-three year old who is showing interest in potty
    training. He asks to go potty at daycare and will go if we suggest it
    at home. I bought some pull-ups thinking maybe if he could pull his
    pants down himself he might show more interest in going to the potty.
    Are these pull-ups as good as wearing a diaper at night - he usually
    soaks his night diaper. He drinks a TON of apple juice both day and
    night. I am concerned about the absorbency of the pull-ups as well as
    the fact that they might "speed up" toilet training.

    Thanks,
    Anne

   I would classify them as having a lower absorbency than normal diapers. We
   use them for night time with Andrew (2) but only because he 1. was upset
   that he could wear "big boy pants" during the day, but had to wear a diaper
   at night. and 2. He has incredible bladder control, 95% of the time he is
   still dry in the morning.

   Your comment about drinking a lot also has an impact. Andrew will have
   apple Juice with his afternoon snack, and then usually milk with dinner at
   about 6 pm. He goes to bed at 7.00 to 7.30 and we make sure he goes to the
   bathroom, before he goes to bed.

   The Pullups are reasonably absorbent, and great for the childs ego, but I
   would probably wait a month or two , in your case.

   Side line...

   WHen we first got real "big boy pants" for ANdrew, we just got generic
   pants. Well, for Xmas he got some MIckey mouse y-front briefs. Now we have
   "Big boy pants with Peek-a-boo wee-wee"

    You can double up the pull-up pants, or put a pair of plastic
    pants over them. Also, some brands have both "beginner's"
    training underwear that are much thicker, and "advanced" training
    underwear that's not so thick.

609.3Where Can I Buy Some?MAMTS3::DHOWARDHe who laughs, lasts!Fri Jan 11 1991 14:137
    Is everyone talking about a training type of pants that's disposable?
    I've heard about these and have had my eye out from grocery to
    department stores, to Toys R Us, and have not seen them.

    Where can I get some?

    They have them at Lee Drugs, now in the process of changing over to
    Walgreen's.

    I've found these at the Osco drugstores, also.
