| We bought the same boots as Sammy - now we can let him test drive them!
I'm hoping that you are WAY ahead of NH in the first snow date!
I thought that the "sock" was the insulating layer, never thought of it
as expansion room. And it seems that the lace-up is pretty much for
looks and maybe for a little adjustment - they still seem like slip-on
boots to me!
Let us know how it goes!

That's what I thought it was. Sam's in a tube sock that's up to
his knee so that he is quite warm.

422.3 | Use as rainboots after | MAJORS::MANDALINCI | | Mon Oct 22 1990 05:10 | 9 |
| The "sock/liner" is also great for expansion room, making rain boots.
I bought my son a pair a Stride Rite boots last year. They were a shiny
plastic boot with a removeable liner. I liked them for 2 reasons - the
line comes out to dry out thoroughly and they could be used a rainboots
come the spring. I would never use them this year without the liner as
a snow boot - they just won't be warm enough.

422.4 | Non Walker Boots? | CSG002::MCOHEN | | Mon Nov 12 1990 20:44 | 5 |
| Chelsea is almost nine months old, and not quite walking yet. Does she
need boots of some kind to go out in when the weather is cold?

422.5 | wait a year | TLE::STOCKSPDS | Cheryl Stocks | Tue Nov 13 1990 07:39 | 10 |
| David was a December baby, and we didn't buy him boots until he was
2 years old. When he was 1 year old, he was walking, but we still carried
him most of the time when he was outside, and he couldn't manage walking
in snow anyway, so shoes were sufficient. He could still play outside
on the (plowed) driveway. Our backup plan (thanks, Grandma!) was to
put plastic bags over his shoes and use rubber bands to hold them up
around knee level, but we never needed to do this. I'd recommend not
bothering with boots until next year.

422.6 | Boot...a neccesity! | NRADM::TRIPPL | | Mon Dec 03 1990 17:29 | 13 |
| I'd tend to disagree with .5, AJ was a January baby and didn't walk til
he was almost a year. We waited til the *great* January sales and
picked up a pair of boots a half price at Fayva. If I had to do it
again it would be a pair of over the shoe rubber(vinyl?) boots, easier
and less expensive. Last year we bought a pair of suede boots with big
deep tread that were good in the snow, gave support and kept his feet
warm. Again another after Holiday bargain.
For what it's worth, see if you might find a pair of over-the-shoe
types at a thrift store or even through the want ads here.
