Two weeks ago my 16 month old son had to have emergency surgery to
correct a twisted testicle. Once they opened him up they find that it
was not twisted and he had a infection. They had told us it was a 90%
chance it was twisted and 10% chance it was a infection, but there was
no way of determining which it was until you operate.
Has any one ever heard of this operation before? They said if it was
twisted and if blood was not getting to the testicle that the testicle
would die and they would have to remove it.
My son is doing great (can't keep if down for long). Mom and Dad are
over the shock now(but it was scarey).

What were the symptoms of a twisted testicle? And what do they mean
"twisted" anyhow?

Not unheard of...
The tubing withing the testicle wraps around on itself and becomes
twisted, or knotted. This is a serios condition, because if left
untreated it will result in the loss of the testicle. The infection is
a toughie because the symptoms are so close to the other condition. If
you take the gamble and try anitbiotics to knock out the infection, and
it turns out to be the twisting of the testicle, the price is pretty
high.
The symptoms vary depending on age (according to my pedi). Older boys
who have it happen get awful pain (like getting kicked there). Infants
may not have so much pain, I don't know.
Once a 12 year old was in the bed next to me in the emergency room, and
I thought that poor kid was gonna die. He was in real pain.

My son woke up from his nap SCREAMING. It took a while to calm him
down. I then tried to change his diaper and he had a another SCREAMING
fit. He would'nt let any one touch him down there. So My husband held him
for forty five minutes naked until he would let us get a diaper on him.
