| Ryan just got 2 of his eye teeth at 2 years, 2 months. The other 2
lookk nasty but nowhere near coming through the gums. Regular doses of
Tylenol really helped the discomfort level.

Hmm...this seems to be the best place to ask my question. (Can't
believe there isn't a general discussion note on teething, its
symptoms, and cures!).
Jason has his eight front teeth and three of his 1-year molars (the 4th,
top right, is real close). The past couple days he has been rubbing and
poking at his left ear; particularly when he tries chewing on that
side. Has anyone else observed ear/upper cheek pain in a teething
child? I would normally suspect an ear infection; since he is just
getting over a nasty cold and runny nose, but there are no other
symptoms (night waking, fever, etc).

| Sounds normal to me ... ours did just that while teething.
BUT, keep an eye open for other symptoms ... sometimes congestion (especially
after a cold) will aggravate the situation and a decongestant may help ...
I can't think of anything worse than to be sick while teething because both
can be so miserable. As ever, if you feel uncomfortable about it, or it
goes on for what feels like too long, talk to your doctor.

Stuart,
We have a routine checkup scheduled for next Monday. I was hoping that
the ear pain was normal (thanks for your input), so that I didn't have
to make an additional doctor's visit before then.

My daughter is done thank god with cutting of teeth. One thing
I found to be extremely helpful in times of anguish...with
CAUTION is: I let my daughter have a toothbrush. She would take
the brush end and run it over her gums. I let her have a soft
brush and didn't let her run around with it. She always had to
sit in her chair. I also thinks this helped in her wanting to
brush her teeth which she LOVES to do.
Just a hint for making them feel better during teething, but you
must keep a close eye on them and not let them run around with it.
