Did anybody see the movie last night entitled, "BABIES?" I enjoyed this movie very much as I felt each couple or character was very well portrayed. I could relate to experiences and/or characters in either friends/family or self. The movie opened at a baby shower and the women the mom-to-be knew around her, and took off from there. The issues touched on included: One young couple who just conceived who might have a baby with health problems [only one functioning kidney]. At 16 weeks when the problem was noticed, the father talked to his wife about terminating the preg- nancy. The wife refused and the baby was born - after surgery while still in mom's womb. What a tear-jerker. Another character was a woman who just turned 40 and gave her lover of 3 years an ultimatum-- marry me [and have a family], or take a hike. He took a hike. She thought about becoming a single mom and explored all the avenues of becoming one. She was a successful career woman. The ending to her story was a good one. She realized that her life would not be unfulfilled if she did NOT have a child. But the impression that you were left with at the end was that she was not real happy about being childless. I thought her character was very well played. The last woman was married to a successful businessman who wanted a child as much as she did-- in the beginning. However, she became obsessed with bearing a child and it almost ruined the marriage. After many unsuccessful attempts at so many different things, their story had a happy ending; they adopted a new infant. Great movie and alot of good, pertinent issues. marcia

Sure did, it was great! I feel like I could have played the part about the couple trying SO hard to conceive. The only difference was that in the end we did have success. My husband came home about half way through the movie, somehow he either couldn't or didn't want to relate to the story, and went to watch the other TV upstairs. The end was a tear jerker for me!! (Must be the hormones kicking in again!!) Lyn |
