290.1 | a suggestion | CHCLAT::HAGEN | Please send truffles! | Tue Aug 28 1990 09:49 | 13 |
| I used Evenflo bottles, and they had nipples with different sized holes:
The orange nipples had the biggest holes, I think...they were for juice.
The brown nipples were for formula.
The white nipples were for milk.
The blue nipples were for water.
After a few weeks, the holes in the nipples would start to close up. So I
just boiled them with a toothpick through the hole, and kept the toothpick
in the hole while they cooled. This seemed to open the holes up nicely for
me.

290.2 | try playskol silicon nipples | CLOSUS::HOE | Dad, is S'dam one of the bad words? | Tue Aug 28 1990 10:41 | 7 |
| We used the Playskol silicon nipples of various grades from
infant-8 months, 6-12 months, 8-18 months, 16-toddler. They had
various hole sizes. They warn against enlarging holes since the
holes are laser drilled in silicon rubber.

| My son is a fast drinker, so I always have to enlarge the holes in new
nipples. I do the same as .1. Boil them up then string them all along
a long skewer until cooled. Looks a little like an odd form of
Shish-Kabob! The holes seem to stay open, since I don't boil them
after that initial stretching and have never had to repeat the
procedure.

290.4 | Look on cardboard backing | MAJORS::MANDALINCI | | Tue Aug 28 1990 11:22 | 8 |
| There is another brand (nuk ??) that tells you whether the nipple is
for water, juice or formula. It is on the cardboard backing and can
easily go unnoticed. The disadvantage (unlike the Evenflo) is that they
aren't color "coded" so when they all end up being washed or sterilized
together, they have completely lost their distinction.
I have used the pin trick - try a hot pin but becareful it is not to
hot because it will melt the nipple.

290.5 | PUR silicon nipples - 3 hole sizes | LEZAH::MINER | | Tue Aug 28 1990 11:56 | 5 |
| I use the Pur silicon nipples. They come in both regular and
orthodontic style and have at least 3 different size holes,
slow flow (0-4 mos), medium flow (4-8? mos) and fast flow (9-
18 months). They hold up really well under use and don't get
sticky like the rubber ones.

| we enlarge the nipple holes with no problem..is this like the
tag on a mattress?
turn the nipple 'inside out' and run a sharp knife slightly over the
exposed hole. this puts the cut on the inside of the nipple.
when its compressed, the cut opens slightly to let more
liquid out. when the nipple is relaxed, the cut is squeesed
shut and the liquid doesn't drip out.
