| I just noticed that I spelled staph wrong in my base note! I knew
I would do that. A staff infection is when your whole group calls
in sick on the same day!

| Staph is actually extremely common and staph infections can take
many forms, serious to not-so-serious. One good place to pick up
staph is in hopitals...

| Where are her clothes washed? I heard once that laundromats are
also a common place to pick up a staph infection. If someone
who has one uses a washer before you, you can pick it up that
way. This may or may not be true - I just remember someone
telling me that this is how he got one.

| The most recent issue of Parenting magazine covers infant illnesses
(in the Birth to 1-year section). It list 3 of the most common
infections in infants: staph, conjunctivitis, and yeast. You might
want to read the article if you have access to the magazine.

From the Column "As They Grow - Birth to 1" p.154
Staph - Staphylococci are bacteria that reside on all human skin; any
wound or even an irritation provides an opporutnity for them to multiply. Staph
infections tend to be transmitted in hospital nurseries, and the longer a
newborn remains there, the greater the baby's chance of exposure.
Body areas especially subject to stah infection include the healing
navel, the circumcision site, as well as the diaper area (which offers the
moist, dark, warmconditions ideal for the growth of bacteria). If you notice a
rash consisting of multiple "pimples," some containing pus, call your doctor;
either vigorous topical treatment or an oral antibiotic will be needed.

| Another likely place for infections: bug bites . . . besides the
little hole leading down into your skin, you often scratch or rub
more germs in from the surrounding skin or from under your
fingernails. I did this to myself once several years ago, and my
doctor informed me that human fingernails are dirtier than cat's
claws.
