Hi folks, My 15 month son only has three teeth on bottom, all of them are completely grown in. He cut the middle two around 7 months of age, and the third (on the right bottom) about 3 months ago. But, the fourth is nowhere to be seen!! Should I be concerned, or wait a few more months and then be concerned? It's just odd...with my first son, all the teeth came in pairs... Thanks for your advice! Cathy

It seems to me that Eric went through almost six months between teeth at a similar age. I'd give it time. They certainly don't always come through in pairs, either. - Bruce

My son who is now 8, has only 3 instead of 4 teeth at the bottom. The dentist at his first visit said that this was not uncommon and that an xray showed that he only has 3 permanent teeth also to replace them. He told me not to worry. Funny thing was that I wasnt into counting teeth and I didnt know until he counted at the first visit. Oh well. I wouldnt worry about it.........Jennie

When our oldest got his teeth, they came in in textbook fashhion...middle 2 bottom, then middle 2 top, then the next 2 bottom, then next 2 top, etc. Our daughter got a top one first, then 2 bototms, 2 more top, one more bottom...all mixed up. Our youngest, who is also 15 mos. now got 1 top tooth, then 1 bottom, then the other middle top within about a 3 week period, all after his 1 yr. birthday. He then got one more top one, about 2 mos. ago, and then one more top one just last week. So, they definitely didn't come in pairs, and there was a lon wait in between. Still no sight of any more bottom teeth. I wouldn't worry at all about what you describe...I've known many babies who do this, and very few who get them "by the book". But...if you're really concerned, give your dentist a call. That should alleviate any worry, and let you get back to relaxing and enjoying every little thing about these wonderful growing up years! --dave-- |
