206.0. "Need recommendations for gymnastic classes" by ASABET::YEE_WONG () Tue Jul 31 1990 23:29

Are there any parents out there who can recommend a place that can
provide gymnastic classes at reasonable prices? I have a 4 year old
that shows potential and is mesmerized by it when she sees it on
television. I looked at Gymnax in Sudbury and I was totally amazed
at what they were charging for the quarterly session (10 weeks at
$85/hour!) We certainly can't afford these prices! Are these prices
"normal"? What should we "expect" to pay for gymnastic classes for
a 4 year old and are there other "good" classes out there in the
    128/495 belt?

Our town runs a bunch of programs for kids of all ages. The
organization is called the "Milford Community Use Program". Their
offices are at the local high school. My son joined a gymnastics
program thru them which consisted of 2 - 1hr sessions per week for
10 weeks for a total of 40.00. It gave him an intro to gymnastics.
I would suggest contacting the schools in your area to see if there
    is a similar group.

That's awfully high for beginner's basic gymnastics; I suspect
that the school specializes in training Olympic-class gymnasts.
Check around at other local schools. You wouldn't pay a lot more
than $85 for a term at many of the gymnastics schools in the
Nashua area. I'd expect to pay more down in that part of Mass,
    but not that much more.

Also check your local YMCA; many of them offer reasonably priced
    gymnastics classes.

We pay $30. for a 4 week session at Stony Hill Gymnastics in Wilbraham.
(by Springfield). Because we have 2 children in the program we
get $5 discount on one so we pay a total of $55 for what amounts
to monthly. After checking around our area, they were all priced
    in the same range.

My son attends sessions given by Port-A-Gym of Worcester at his school in
Nashua. The price is $30 for four weekly sessions, and he enjoys it a lot.
You might call and ask if they have sessions somewhere local that your
child can attend. (I can get the number later if you can't find it in the
phone book.)

I'll bet $85 or more that you misunderstood. It must be $85 per 10
week period. Nobody would charge or pay $85 per hour for a 4 year old.
Call them back and double check.

My son, and almost all the children from his daycare home just finished
three weeks, at two half days per week, at the Central Mass Gymnastics
Center. It cost us somthing like $50+ for the 6 sessions. The director's
name is Kathy, and phone number is (508) 393-3326, Someone is generally
there to answer personally in the morning, and an answering machine at
other times. I understand sessions are held year round, with sessions
grouped by ages (3 to 10 or 12).

Sessions are held in the rear of the Oxford Academy on Howard St.
Northboro which is real handy to NRO,MRO,DLB,HLO and vicinity

Hope this helps, not sure where you work.

Bruce,

You are absolutely right. I "did" misread it. (Even I couldn't understand
how they could stay in business if they charged so much.) The way it was
worded in the brochure was that the 45 minute classes are $85 per session.
(However, I forget to "notice" the word "session" and that each "session"
consisted of 10 weeks.) Boy, does that make me feel better!

Thanks for all the replies from the other parents.
