| My sister just gave me a wall-hanging with it printed on it. Do you
want me to type it into this file?

.1 I would be eternally grateful. There should be a topic started for
writings or sayings like that, do you think? I think it gives some
encouragement at times when parents some times need just to read some
inspirational words. Parents everywhere know how hard it is to cope
and know what is needed at all times with children.
thanks again...Ginnie

152.6 | It does appear to by copyrighted | CRONIC::ORTH | | Wed Jul 18 1990 16:35 | 9 |
| Ginnie,
I have two copies of it at home...one says "author unkwnown" (possible
cop-out on part of calligrapher who did it) and the other says it is by
a woman by the name of Dorothy Law Nolte, and that the poem is
copyright 1963 by John Philip Company.
I would imagine any gift shop or even Hallmark-type store that sold
wall plaques would have a copy of it.

| Wait a minute, don't copyrights expire after 25 years? or is it 50?

| Copyrights do expire, but they can also be renewed, even without
recalling all original editions to update their copyright notices.

152.10 | Few Lines? | PEKING::LYNGA | | Thu Jul 19 1990 13:07 | 11 |

What a pity you can't copy it into the Notes file for us over in
the UK! I saw a lovely script recently at a Craft Fayre which I
now wish I'd bought, but didn't. I was wondering if it was the
same thing.
Can you just supply the first few lines even?
Thanks.

152.11 | It goes something like this... | CRONIC::ORTH | $IF WEEKEND THEN SET KIDS/WAKEUP=LATE | Thu Jul 19 1990 14:55 | 11 |
| The whole gist of the poem is that a child learns to do what he lives
with.
Its a set of "couplets", the first lines all beginning with "If a child
lives with....." and the second line beginning with "He learns to..."
It progresses from living with and learning "bad" things to living with
and learning "good" things. Does this sound like what you saw? It must
be available *somewhere* in the UK...gift shops or greeting card stores
maybe?
hope this helped!

Yes, sounds like the same thing. I'll have to keep a look-out in
card shops etc. for it. If anyone finds out who publishes it, I'd
love to know.
Thanks.
