61.1 | we had it, too | NUTMEG::MACDONALD_K | | Mon Jun 25 1990 13:13 | 19 |
| Hi Cal,
I'm not sure if the fever was because of the heat... it could have
been a virus. Last weekend the same thing happened to Allyson.
She'd have a fever of 102.4, I'd give her tylenol, she'd be fine
for about 6 or so hours, then her fever would be 103. I called her
pedi and asked if it was because of heat and he said "Probably not".
(It wasn't her regular pedi - it was the guy who covers for vacations
and he's not that great, IMO). Anyway, I finally brought her in and
she saw another doctor who examined her and still couldn't find
anything wrong. Then, two days later I came down with a fever and
horrible body aches. I think I must have caught whatever she had.
The only thing I can't figure out is how she managed to smile and
be happy, because I was MISERABLE! Sorry I don't have any more info...
just keep an eye on Sammy and take him to the Dr. if this fever
persists.

61.2 | Roseola virus in our house | NOVA::WASSERMAN | Deb Wasserman, DTN 264-1863 | Mon Jun 25 1990 14:06 | 8 |
| This is wierd... we had the same problem! High fever (103) on
Thursday, no other symptoms, down to 101 on Friday a.m., back up
to 103 Friday afternoon. Quick trip to pedi showed nothing. Pedi
guessed possibly roseola virus, which causes high fever for 3 days,
then the fever breaks and a MAJOR rash breaks out, signalling the end
of the virus. Sure enough, Marc was fine yesterday, then woke up this
morning with spots all over his face. Good thing the pedi warned me of
this, otherwise I would have been pretty worried!

| Deb,
The pedi told me that Ally would probably get roseola the next day,
but she didn't. Frankly, I was kind of worried because I still
didn't know what the fever was from. But then when *I* got it,
I assumed it was something I caught from her. Hope Marc is better
soon.

61.4 | Happened once to us | TLE::RANDALL | living on another planet | Mon Jun 25 1990 14:41 | 14 |
| Kat had an incident of this when she was about 5. It came after a
hard day's play at a group picnic on the first really hot day of
the year, and to keep her from getting dehydrated we let her load
up on soda, which she doesn't usually get. That night she came
down with a high fever. The doctor thought at first she was
coming down with tonsillitis (she had a history of doing that) but
her tonsils were fine, and she never did develop any other
symptoms, though it took about three days for her temperature to
really stabilize. None of us ever caught anything, and it never
happened again. The doctor finally decided it was the combination
of heat, overexertion, too much sugar, and too much caffeine from
the soda.
