1290.0. "What time?" by LINGER::PINEAU () Tue Jun 03 1997 15:03

In a couple of weeks, my son will be hosting his first birthday
sleep over party (he'll be 9). Now he's had friends sleep over from
time to time, but this is his first group of boys to sleep over.

My question is this...what time is reasonable for me to ask the parents
to pick up their child the next morning? Is 9am or 9:30 too early?

    Thanks,
    Chris

re: time to pick up after sleep over

Most of the ones that our kids have had, or been invited to, have
pickup around lunchtime the next day. Not sure of your expectations,
but it's TOUGH getting the kids to sleep early enough to have them
all fully awake by 9am. They usually do stuff till all-hours (even if
you're constantly trying to get them to settle down), and even if
they wake up early, they need the time to "wind down" from the
previous night. If you plan around lunch time, you can feed 'em
breakfast and let them do a few things. Pick up around 11 might
be appropriate. Of course, I may have just seen really wacky
sleep overs (all boys in every case) - just my experience.

Get some movies, and lots of high protien snacks and may the force be
with you. the girls drag on often until 2 o'clock in the Pm or so. it
is one reason why I limit "slumber" parties to one night a year,
although kids are welcome on non working weekends.

9 year old boys ?? i'd have them on the front lawn, ready
    for pick up at 7 AM...sharp !!!

seriously, having breakfast and letting them run around
for a little while is probably expected....i'd say 11 is good.
if you say 12, then you have to feed them lunch !!!

I have them coming at 4pm on Saturday. Basketball, volleyball and
games for the late afternoon, then in for pizza/cake/icecream - movies.
We have a finished basement with tc/vcr, so that's where they'll be.
Maybe I'll split the difference and ask for 10/10:30am - noon is too late -
and that way if the parents are running late, they'll have the kids
    picked up by 11.

    Thanks for the suggestions

p.s. Wish me luck - remember I'm new at this :)

If there's a McDonald's in the neighborhood consider
taking them all there for breakfast. That way they'll
be encouraged to all be up and ready together.

10:30 is a good pickup time. Consider dropping them
off on the way back from breakfast instead of having
    parents pick them up.

We just went through this with our 11-year old in April.
We had a total of 7 boys (including our son).
We decided to take them all to the movies in the evening
to see "Jungle To Jungle". When we walked into the
theater the woman behind us said "Wow are you brave!"

At McDonalds the next morning we got a similar comment.

    Good luck
