It may be that some folks are thinking about finding out via amnio, versus
the unreliable ultrasound.   We experienced some very real negative
reactions to the fact that we took the option to do an amnio (maternal age).
If we'd had bad news about the baby, I don't know what we would have done.
But definitely some people don't want to even think about the possibility
of terminating a pregnancy, no matter what the circumstances.  And so they don't 
like amnios either.   

For us, I must say it was very helpful to know the sex in advance.  It made
us focus on chosing a boy's name  (it was his middle name that gave us fits),  
and it also gave us lots of time to resolve the circumcision issue.
