1149.0. "Children of Fire" by MOIRA::FAIMAN (Der Mai is gekommen, der Winter ist aus.) Mon Jun 17 1996 14:02

Yesterday, Elspeth's eighth grade class graduated from the Pine Hill Waldorf
School.

The entire event was unbelievably emotional, but I especially wanted to share
with the PARENTING community this song, which was composed by the parents of one
of the children in the class, and sung by all the parents (who could control
their voices) to the class during the graduation.

To put it in context... the class started at Pine Hill in September 1988. In
October 1988, the school burned, and they spent the next year in the back room
of an old church and later in portable classrooms on the school grounds, before
the school was rebuilt and the classes could move back in.

    Children of Fire
    ----------------

    (Refrain):

Children of fire, forged in our love,
Rising from ashes, straight and true,
	Gifts from above.
Embers of hope, flames in the night,
We send you off to be
	Children of light.

    (Verse):

Life is a graceful wheel, turning in time,
Constantly bring forth, always leaving behind.
In yesterday's sorrows lie the seeds of our joy,
The woman within this precious girl,
And the man in this boy.

    (Refrain)

    (Interlude):

You form a wondrous world by the work of your hands,
Fashion your lives in stone and in delicate strands.
	Stay young, be free,
Become what it is you can be.
	Arise!

    (Instrumental refrain)

    (Verse):

Never believe that you will travel alone,
Carry our hopes with you, but find hope of your own.
We hold you deep within the warmth of our hearts,
Like embers you glow, you spark, you ignite,
	And the shadows depart.

    (Refrain)

    Class of 1996.
