1136.0. "Lupus in Pregnancy" by ALFA1::LIPSON () Wed May 01 1996 16:36

    Hi,

    I was wondering if anyone could provide any information about lupus.
    A sister of a friend of mine is about 20 weeks along in her second
    pregnancy. Everything was going along great until two weeks ago -- her
    OB noticed a very small amount of blood in her urine. The OB asked her
    to do a 24 hour urine sample. She just got the results and they're
    telling her that it might be lupus. This possible diagnosis is turning
    her life upside-down.

    Has anyone in the noting community ever had this experience? I did do
    some reading in the medical notes file but it doesn't address a
    possible lupus diagnosis during pregnancy.

    Any anecdotal information that you can share would be greatly
    appreciated. Feel free to contact me off-line.

    Kind regards,
    Lisa

    I have 2 friends of childbearing age that have lupus. They both
    had it before conception. Both had healthy baby girls. One thing
    I do know is that lupus can be hard to diagnose so she really needs
    to make sure that is what she has.

    I want to thank all who have responded in this file and to my email

1136.3Good News...it's not lupusALFA1::LIPSONWed May 08 1996 09:525
    Just an update -- with good news! I just found out that the test for
    lupus was negative. Of course, they still don't know exactly what is
    causing these symptoms but they can rule out lupus.

    Thanks again for your support.

    An auto-immune disease that attacks connective tissue. It can manifest
    itself as artheritis, kidney failure, a strange looking rash (thus the
    name as it can make a "wolf mask" on the face" and other problems.
    Some people have little to no problem with lupus, others have major
    problems, depending on the severity of the disease.
