1077.0. "Proof of Purchase for non-profit (coupons, too)" by NETCAD::CREEGAN () Mon Jan 15 1996 10:15

I'm saving Betty Crocker coupons. With hope there is
some non-profit group that could possible use them.
Is it possible that they can be used to buy things like
    play equipment for playground (etc)?

If Betty Crocker coupons are useless for that type
of need, what can I save and for whom?

I've heard you can pull the pull tabs off aluminum
cans and they can be put to good use.

Does anyone have information on that kind of stuff?

My town's school system is saving Campbell Soup
    Labels, for instance.

    thanks

My experience with Betty Crocker coupons is that the discount you get
by using them with the catalog is offset by the shipping costs and
you'd do just as well going to your local large store, even better on sale
    days.

My mother-in-law saved these for years and they used to be a really
good deal. She shares the above opinion now. I haven't heard of any
    other uses for them.

My school has a deal with a whole set of products (I can't remember the
parent company, but it includes spaghettios!). The school hands out the
list of products each year - I don't have one here but if you call the
local schools you may find this easily.

    Good luck!

1077.2Labels for Education by CampbellsVIVE::STOLICNYMon Jan 15 1996 10:5810

The parent company for the "Labels for Education" program - which I
believe is what is referenced in .1 - is Campbells. There are alot
of products eligible for that program that do not bear the Campbells
    logo (Spaghettios, Pepperidge Farm, etc).

My understanding of the program is that it is a truly "free" merchandise -
label fronts are exchanged for books, sports equipment, etc.

I know we save the tabs off aluminun cans and give them to my Mom.
She knows of a organization (in Florida) that donates time for
kidney dialysis patients (so it's free time for them). I don't
how it all works out. I just save them and hand them over to her.

I believe the tabs-for-dialysis story is urban legend.

Well Gerald, it is actually true. My Mom was told at one time it
was a hoax so she spoke with a man up at Camp Sunshine, in Maine
This man, Rocky, actually used them at University Hospital in Boston
to get time on the dialysis for his son.

Camp Sunshine is a summer camp for children with life-threatening
diseases. They are located at the Point Sebago resort. They collect
    the tabs there.

The people in Florida are the VFW.

And my mother-in-law also collects for the local hospital in
Iron Mountain , MI for the same reason. I can't quite make the
connection as to who converts the "tabs to time" though.

Is there still an org. that can use them? My sister-in-law must
have 40 coffee cans full of tabs..
