882.0. "Longer menstrual cycles after each child" by CLOUD9::WEIER (Patty, DTN 381-0877) Wed Jan 18 1995 08:59

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed anything like this ....

I have 3 children, and after each child, my cycle has become longer.
Still pretty regular - just long ...

Before #1, I was pretty regular at ~29 days. After #2 it jumped to ~31
days. Now after #3, it's up to ~35-37 days, and right when I started
again, for the first few months, it was more like ~40 days.

Now, I'm certainly NOT complaining ... just curious if anyone else has
noticed a trend like this at all? FWIW, I also had my tubes tied after
#3, but that's not supposed to matter at all. If I hadn't had 'em
tied, I think I'd be a nervous wreck with these long cycles!!

Jonathan is almost 16 mos old now, so I think we're done with any type
    of post-birth "adjustment".

    Thanks,
    Patty

Pre-birth control pill, my cycles were ~31 days.
Post birth-control pill, my cycles were 28 days and lighter.
Post-baby, my cycles returned to what they were like in my
pre-birth control pill days (~31 days and slightly heavier).

My changes were that my period lastest 1-2 days longer after each
child. (I have 2) ... and after each birth, my periods were
significantly heavier after each birth. My doctor said that was normal
and if I were ever to have #3, YUK!!!

Not longer cycles (they're irregular but average to 26.5) but each
period is heavier at the beginning (first 2 days) and the remaining 3-5
    days are annoyingly light.

    With the heavier beginning came cramps, for the first time in my life;
it took me a couple *years* to overcome the reflex, when a cramp
started up, of thinking "another CONTRACTION oh no OH NO!!!!!!"

    Sheesh :-)

    Hi Patty,

I'm was SO GLAD to see that this note was entered. I too am having the
    same problem!

Before my first child was born, I was always a 28 day cycle (29 days
was late.). When Laura was born, I never tracked my cycles because we
were going through a lot of family tragedy at the time. When I finally
did start to track, the first cycle was 36 days, the next was 42 days.

I went to the doctor at that point and was told that I was probably not
ovulating. He said if I ran into a problem when we decided to have
another baby, he could put me on drugs to force ovulation. Well,
    SUPRISE....I was pregnant!

I had my daughter Chris on August 12th and did not have a period until
November 30th. The next cycle was 48 DAYS!! After 2 negative
pregnancy tests, I now have a appointment with my doctor.

I think he is going to suggest that I go on the pill. This is
something that I really did not want to do, but I can't deal with
buying pregnancy tests for every cycle! I'll let you know what the
doctor says after my appointment on Wednesday.

P.S. My first daughter was a c-section, the second was natural.
