    If anyone is concerned about the lead in the water. Send me mail I just
    got the EPA report on most of the cities ans states in the northeast.
    I was shocked.....
    Then to top it off I saw a show on New England Cable that showed that
    bottled water is not what they state.

880.1If in doubt - Test It !!ICS::WALKERMon Jan 09 1995 08:1717
    Concerned, yes, but not as much as I was.

    We lived in a very old house with lead paint and I was also concerned
    about the water. Although my town was considered to have a good 2water
    source, I was concerned about the pipes leading into the house and the
    ones in the house, so I called the state, and sent them a check for
    $42. (?) and they sent me a kit. I was plesantly surprised to find that
    the lead level was low. If you're really concerned, just do it!!! I can
    find the number for you. $42. is such a small price to pay for
    knowledge and/or relief.

    PS- what about bottled water. We just moved into a town with horrible
    tasting water. Found that it's loaded with iron and other minerals, yuck!!
    Just bought some bottled water last night- tastes better

In the town we used to live in, the report in one of those tables in
the Globe was pretty high. Of course, according to the caption under
the table, they took the highest reading of 25 random houses they tested.
(it turns out the reading in general in town is well below the concern level)

Anyway, we tested ours (old house) and there was not even a trace.

BTW, we went through some testing lab in Westford and it was a lot
less than $42, and the state knows nothing about it (which means that
had it been high, we could have dealt with it without the state
appearing on our doorstep).

880.3If it's not the water, the hot dogs will get ya!CLOUD9::WEIERPatty, DTN 381-0877Mon Jan 09 1995 10:3710
    re: Bottled water .... I believe the previous noted was eluding to ...
    just because it's in a bottle, doesn't mean it's necessarily any/much
    better than what's coming out of your tap. I thought there had been
    some restrictions recently placed on bottled water, though, to
    guarantee a particular level of purity.

    Anyway, I think the general 'advice' is to find a BRAND that you know
    is tested, and tests well, and stick with that.
