807.0. "Lonely working mom" by STUDIO::KUDLICH (nathan's & morgan's mom!) Wed Aug 17 1994 12:10

I'm lonely. When I went to engineering school, there were a few of us
women, who hung together, talked of futures together, and had a good
time together. Seven years later, I am in a small site with few
working women/moms, and the last of my engineeirng friends from the
outside just quit to become an at home mom. With all the stress here,
it'd be great to talk to a friend, but these moms who have quit have
little "emotional" time or connectivity to this situation now? Then
the kids interrupt, and they are on their non-stop life, and I sit back
to try to discuss this with the friends I have left, male (and not at
the least connoting non-understanding--they are great but not what I
    need!).

so where do I go from here? I am looking for maybe a group of working
moms inthe Worester/Marlboro area of MA, or something similar--just
some commiseration maybe? I want to stay working, and need to
financially; and already work part time to alleviate some of the
    Digital stress...any suggestions?

	Adrienne,

Would you try to arrange get-togethers for such Moms ?

What would your means of communicating be ?

I could be persuaded to become a part of a group of working moms.

807.3Playgroups - Maybe???ASABET::MINISANDRAMThu Aug 18 1994 09:1915
I am wondering if we could start a play group with kids of working
moms. I live in Shrewsbury. The playgroups that I contacted all meet
in the afternoons and there is no way I can join those groups. I am
also looking for some company. Let me know if you are interested in
forming such a group.... I have two daughters - 3 1/2 years old and
10 month old.... I would like to meet some Saturdays or any other time
    that we could agree on.

    Thanks

    Jay.

PS: Send me mail if you are interested in doing this. That way the
kids will have company and the moms can relate to something in
    common....
807.4playgroup - great ideaMPGS::SCHWARTZThu Aug 18 1994 10:478
A Saturday morning playgroup is a great idea - for both moms and dads.
I have also been looking for one with no success. I'm willing to help
    set it up.

I am also near Shrewsbury, I have a daughter 2 yr, 2 mos. It sounds
like there are quite a few families in this area. Let's do it-

Hello Adrienne,

It looks like you have something going here. I SUPPORT SW Engineers, does THAT
count? I am also a single parent, since I lost my husband to Prostate Cancer
in MAy '93. I have a son who will be 4 in October.

It would be nice to get together with Digital folks to discuss topics of interest
such as single parenting, Digital's crazy world that we all work in, etc.

I live in Marlboro and work in Littleton (TAY).

Keep this idea going, I think it has potential!

    Hello,

I am new to this file and aam very excite to have fouund it.
I have a 5 month old daughter named Michaella and think this is
a great resource for info. My husband and I were just talking the
other night about how all our friends are single or without kids and
that we need to find some friends that have kids. I think this is
a super idea. The only problem is I live in Fitchburg.... are there
any parents in the Fitchburg/Leominster area that would be interested
in doing this in our area?

What great response! I was thinking of an evening thing, maybe a get
away from all the pressures once a month...I'll contact the local folks
and lets keep the string going--maybe just organizing this sort of
thing is what I need to get back into the swing of things!

I live in Pepperell and am always looking for things to do with my ten
month old son on Saturdays while my husband does his thing around the
house. We're not far from Fitchburg so it would be nice to also have a
    group around that area (Fitchburg/Townsend/Pepperell/Nashua/etc).

    Hi,

My son just turned 1 year old, and we don't know many people with
children. We live in Templeton (where's that? right next to Gardner),
and would love to be involved in a playgroup in the
Fitchburg/Leominster area. Weekends would be best, but evenings would

Sounds like we have a playgroup in Fitchburg/Leominster/Pepperal/Templeton
area. The weekend seems to be best for everyone. Maybe we could get
together a couple times a month. I would be happy to organize
something. This weekend my husband going away for our anniversary.
Finally a night alone with my husband!! Contact me offline and let

Anyone in the North Shore area or even along upper 128/93 belts ????
    I'm a Tech Support contractor with a 40+ husband and a 17mo old son,
    can I play, too?
I have no real friends anymore. Those still in my life live so far
away, their kids are all grown, they're broke and feel that $$ is
necessary to be friends, or ..... the reasons go on. I'm lonely too,
and would love to find a non-competative group to relax and gab with while
the kiddo's play. Respond here if interested or ICS::WALKER (have no

Hi everyone. I live in Colorado Springs but thought I'd add a reply
to this! I organized a play group here about 2 years ago. It really
is alot of fun and well worth the effort to get it going. I'd be
glad to share the way we do ours with anyone who is interested
(should I post it here??). Lila

I'm interested! I think this sort of thing is so important; we have
our jobs and kids and homes and husbands--our own lives get
shortsheeted easily, and we don't notice until we've lost it. It does
take an effort to stay in touch--your experiences may help us!

807.16Ok!CSC32::L_WHITMOREMon Aug 22 1994 14:384
Ok - when I get some time here today I'll post some info on the
playgroup (for mom;s and kids) as well as a craft club I've
organized (just for Mom's!!!) - Lila

807.17Here's how we do it!CSC32::L_WHITMOREMon Aug 22 1994 15:4635
    Hi everyone -

I live in Colorado Springs and I organized a playgroup about 2 years ago.
There are currently 6 mom's and 1 Grandma in our group and 10 boys. When
we started there were 5 Mom's and 5 boys, then we added 1 mom and 4 of
us have had babies in the last 2 years! Anyway, here's the way ours
works. All of us are either Stay-at-home mom's or we work the weekends so
we meet every other Friday at 10:00. We rotate houses. We do something
like a potluck. There are 5 categories of types of food to bring. Each time
someone brings something different. The hostess supplies the main course
(usually pizza, sometimes barbecue, or whatever she wants to do!) - the
other categories are dessert/treats, drinks, salad/fruit, and kid's
choice (which is something kids usually eat like peanut butter and jelly
sandwiches or macaroni and cheese - these are in case the kid's don't want
to eat whatever the main course is, this gives them another choice!) So -
each time we meet there are 2 people who don't need to bring anything -
or, in case someone can't make it then we have alternate folks to bring
whatever is needed. The kids play, and sometimes we do a craft (any
special activity is up to the hostess to plan - if she wants to do one
or not). We eat lunch and the kids play some more. It usually lasts till
    about 1:00. It's really nice - especially for the stay-at-home mom's -
because it gives everyone a chance to visit with other mom's and gives the
kids time to play with other kids. Also, we may occasionally meet at
places like Chuck E. Cheese's or Discovery Zone or a park (one of the
Mom's house is too small to have that many people at one time, so during
the winter months we'll be going to one of these places instead). It
really is alot of fun and we enjoy it very much. We've been lucky in
that all of the kids play really well together - there is rarely any
fighting! I was going to post our schedule so you could see what it
looks like, but it's 132 wide, so if you're interested just send me mail
and I'll send it to you. Good luck to whoever decides to organize a
playgroup. Believe me, it is definitely worth the effort!

    Lila

807.18And a craft club for Mom's!CSC32::L_WHITMOREMon Aug 22 1994 15:5448

    Hi again everyone!

Also, in addition to the playgroup, I really felt like I needed
some time for just ME without any kids! So I have begun to
organize a craft club. Following is the "invitation" I've sent
to everyone I know whom I thought would be interested. This
explains how it will work. If crafts aren't your thing, you
could really organize just about any activity - even meeting
once a month for dinner at a restaurant, or maybe getting
together for a movie (either at a theatre or in someone's
home). There are alot of possibilities - the key is finding
someone to get it started and to make sure it stays organized
and keeps going!!! So, anyway - here's the Craft Club info:

I would like to extend an invitation to you to join a Craft
Club being organized! We will be meeting once a month on the
second Wednesday of the month from 06:30 - 09:30 (hours may
vary! You know how hard it is to stop crafting once you get
started!!!) The goal is to get together and work on a craft
or needlework project while enjoying the company of friends!
Each month we will meet at a different member's home. The
hostess will provide dessert and beverages. Also, if she
chooses, she may plan some type of group craft project.
(for example, making Christmas ornaments or wreaths) The
hostess will contact each member to let them know what is
being planned and to let those who are interested know what
materials they need to bring. You do not have to participate
in the group project. You can work on whatever you want!! It
is just a time set aside once a month to enjoy being creative
and being with friends! (sorry, no kids please - except the
hostess's family, who are, of course, banned to the basement!
            HA HA!!)

If you would like to join, please contact me at 598-7541.
The first meeting is planned for Wednesday, September 14, at my
home. We will be making Dream Catchers.

Hope to hear from you soon!!!!

            Lila

So - see how easy it is to get it going?!!! Again, Good luck!
