Carol duBois, PARENTING co-moderator ********************************************************* Three weeks ago I had a miscarriage with my second child at 2 1/2 months. The doctor reports that there was nothing wrong with me, but the miscarriage was natures way of saying something was wrong. Actually the fetus never really developed and it takes a few weeks for the body to realize this before miscarring. I'll always remember that little baby. My doctor said it could take my body from two weeks to two months before I have a period again. Could those of you who have experienced a miscarriage give any input on how long it was before you began having your periods again. Both my husband and I would like try getting pregnant again, but am wondering how to figure the right time out with not knowing when my period would be starting again. Thanks,

I got my period exactly 28 days after the miscarriage. The doctor recommended waiting 3 months before trying again. (This was the right amount emotionally also). Conceived the third month after hte miscarriage. Allison is now 3 :-)!

I think that there may be notes on this in a previous version, but here's my story. I got my first period about 4 weeks after my miscarriage. We abstained for 1 month (Doctor's recommendation was to have one full cycle before trying again), had one unsuccessful attempt the next month, then were successful the next. My daughter was born 362 days after my miscarriage. A few women that I know that had miscarriages had a healthy baby 365 +/- 7 days later. Some doctors recommend waiting until the third month to try, which probably contributes heavily to the "one year later" phenomenon. Of course, many people do not get pregnant in just 1 or 2 tries, but some of us do. (1,2, and 1 try for my 3 pregnancies...) Karen

Same here... I had the miscarriage, had my next period exactally 28 days later. I too was advised to wait 3 months..which we did, and I got pregnant the following month. I would suggest waiting to get your cycle back to normal.. Of course this is just my opinion.. Anne Maire

I am just like the others. Exactally 28 days after my miscarriage I got my period. My OB told me to wait 3 months before trying again. I had my miscarriage in November of '88 around Thanksgiving and got pregnant with my son the end of February of '89 and Alex was born that November and was a perfect healthy baby. He is now 4 1/2 and a very happy little boy. And like .1 said waiting the 3 months before trying again was great emotionally also for me and for my husband. Liz |
