757.0. "Furniture Stores" by ICS::SPAULDING () Thu Jun 09 1994 15:58

    I'll be crib shopping this weekend. Are there any baby furniture store
    in the Nausha area or lower NH area.

    There is one that I have never been into...it's on 3A in Hudson past
    Walmart heading toward Tyngsboro - I think it's called Baby Choices or
    something like that.

    -sjd

    There's always the usual Burlington Coat, Toys R Us, Sears, Lechmere,
    Montgomery Ward, etc.

757.2Manchester StoresSOLVIT::BALBONIThu Jun 09 1994 16:3110
    Manchester has Cribs -n- Things off of South Willow Street and
    Tiny Tot Land in down town Manchester. We bought all our
    things at Tiny Tot Land.

    You need to look around and price things out.

    As .1 mentioned, Burlington Coat Factory, they have
    a really good baby selection now.

    Good Luck!

Warning; it was over a year ago, but I had problems with Burlington Coat.
They kept telling me our crib was coming, coming, etc, over a several week
period. This was after the several month waiting period timed out, that's
when I stared complaining.

I finally gave up *after* Jamie was born, cancelled the order, and called up
Tiny Tot. They matched the price, and I got it delivered (extra for delivery
but I didn't care with a newborn!) within days of my calling. Burlington
didn't give me a problem with refunding my money, but I was pretty upset over
that several week period when they obviously had no clue as to where my order
was, but were claiming to know...

757.4NH Buyers ServiceBRAT::VINCENTTue Jun 14 1994 10:168

    You could also try NH Buyers Service (I think that is the name). They
    carry alot of different brand names, and are supposed to beat most
    prices. I know I have been able to get the number throught
    information - they are located in Manchester.

    		Good luck
757.5Norm's DiscountSSPADE::BNELSONTue Jun 14 1994 10:456
It isn't in NH, but I like Norm's Discount house
in Fitchburg, Mass. They have a lot of selection,
and we bought a lot of things there: cradle, crib, backpack,
baby seat, booster seat, changing pad, stroller...

757.6THANK YOU ICS::SPAULDINGFri Jun 17 1994 13:486
    Thank You for the information

    We ended buying at Baby Choices in Hudson NH. The price was reasonable.
    We did some comparing and this place has heavy duty crib. The crib
    converts to a toddler bed. We spend less than $260 for crib and
    mattress.

    Donna,

    If you pass over the Sagamore bridge to Hudson near Walmart and head
    towards Tyngsboro, MA on 3A. It will be on your left and although I
    can't remember exactly where I believe it is kind of across from a day
    care center...the building looks like it was a garage at one time - but
    there is alot of hot top around it to indicate a business...

Sandy, do you perhaps mean the Tyngsboro bridge?

There are two Sagamore bridges, one across the Merrimack between Nashua and
Hudson, and one on Cape Cod.

Thanks.

I was thinking of deleting my (exposed as stupid) question, but I think I'll
leave it, to save someone else the embarassment of having their ignorance
exposed  :^)

757.12Looking for a good place to by Kid's furnitureAKOCOA::GURNEYWed Sep 07 1994 10:2820
    I am looking to purchase either a single twin bed or bunk beds and a
    dresser for my son. My husband and I have gone to Jordans, Levitz,
    Wayside furniture and haven't had much luck.

    Does anyone have any suggestions where I can find oak color bunk
    beds or a single bed around the Worcester/New Hampshire area. I
    live in Townsend so I can travel either way.

    I don't want a youth bed or anything in white or dark pine.

    Any suggestions?

    Regards,
    Susan

757.13Rotman's HOTLNE::CORMIERWed Sep 07 1994 11:026
    Try Rotman's in Worcester. I recall seeing light-colored oak kids
    furniture. Call first, to save yourself the trip just in case. They
    have a whole floor of bedrooms, so they should have what you want. They
    also may show a style in pine, but you can order oak, maple or cherry
    depending on the manufacturer.

    My brother bought oak bunk beds for his sons about 6 months ago, and
    I'm pretty sure they got them from Rotman's.

    My husband and I just bought ourselves a Oak Bedroom set from Rotman's.
    We were very happy with the selection, price, etc. We didn't venture
    to the childrens section, but I'm sure you would be able to find
    something.

757.17O'CoinsCNTROL::STOLICNYWed Sep 07 1994 13:397

    You could try O'Coin's in Worcester. They have a modest selection
    of children's bedroom furniture but will order from the catalogs
    of any of the companies you carry. Rotman's is not nearly as
    flexible when you want something that they don't have in their
    warehouse (particularly on price).

    Thankyou all for the great suggestions. I have one more question.
    I know how to get to Searstown mall to "This Ends Up" but I don't
    have any idea how to get to Rotman's. Can someone give me directions
    from 495 South.

    Thanks,

757.19High Chairs --- Where???REGENT::WOODWARDI'll put this moment...hereTue Oct 25 1994 08:397
    Needed: A store that carries good quality, wood high chairs. I'm
    looking for something that could be considered heirloom quality in a
    high chair. I need it for a shower. Do the stores in Gardner carry
    this? What about Bobs Oak Furniture in Littleton? I am going to call
    places later, but I'd be real happy to hear recommendations from you!

757.20CLOUD9::WEIERPatty, DTN 381-0877Tue Oct 25 1994 16:2418
    I bought the Fisher Price (wood) high chair about 9 years ago, and it's
    being used for its 4th kid, and has held up marvelously!

    The tray is plastic, and there's some plastic covers that go over the
    wood arms to attach the whole thing together. The covers come off the
    arms, and the screw holes are on the very bottom, so you never see
    anything. It's really a beautiful chair, and works well as a
    "standalone" high chair, and also as a regular chair that can be pulled
    right up to the table. I expect to be using it for the next 4 years or
    so, and even after that, as just a taller seat - works great for doing
    crafts or whatever at the table.

    The wood cleans up nicely (though maybe a tad harder than a 'standard'
    high chair), and the tray is a CINCH to clean!

    Now I just hope they still make them!

757.21Sturdy bedSAPPHO::DUBOISHONK if you've slept w/Cmdr Riker!Mon Feb 27 1995 13:0714
In Massachusetts or Southern New Hampshire (like Nashua):

Where can one buy a sturdy child's bed or bunk bed?

Where can I buy it and not have to spend $1000? (This End Up bunk bed set
  was labeled at $1139).

We will be checking out Rotman's, and have already visited This End Up at
the Natick Mall.

THANK YOU!!!

     Carol, who hasn't a *clue* what types of stores have what names in NE
            and whose phone book hasn't helped much!!!

    You could try Jordan's. [Waltham?, Nashua (across from Pheasant Lane),
    and Avon]

    Another option is to shop at stores like Bradfords or whatever, write
    down the pertinent manufacturer, style number, and finish and call
    Cherry Hill Furniture [whatever ... listed in the Digital Discount
    Directory] to get a quote. As they are in High Point NC where the
    furniture mart is held they are a dealer for many makers and have some
    very nice discounts that vary by manufacturer. As an example, I bought
    two chairs, an ottoman, and a sofa that would have cost ~$3700 [plus
    shipping/delivery] at Hitchcock Furniture for $1686 including shipping
    and delivery. [this is more of discount than usual because they are a
    primary distributor for that mfgr]

You might also want to try Hudson Furniture on 101(A?) out towards Benson's
Animal Farm (is that still there?).

We looked at a bed store in Acton on 2A, across from BayBank. There is another
one on the other side of the street, also, but we didn't check there. We were
not overly impressed, but we found a bed (basic metal frame, box spring and
mattress) we liked. They did have at least one bunk bed on display, but not
much else other than mattress and box spring sets.

I'd recommend the Oak Gallery in Littleton, also on 2A (west of 495). I'm not
sure if the prices will be in your desired range, but it is worth checking.
Good quality furniture. We have a dining room set from them that we are very
happy with. We bought a headboard (to be attached to the aforementioned bed
frame) there. They have quite a few bed sets, varying prices. They have bunk
beds.

I'd also recommend Workbench in Lexington Center. Scandinavian furniture, lots
of kids stuff, generally good quality. They also have bunk beds.

Also, check a Framingham phone book to find furniture stores in the sprawl
along Rt 9.

757.25Try Empire FurnitureHOTLNE::CORMIERMon Feb 27 1995 15:1010
    Don't expect Rotmans to be inexpensive. As long as you are in
    Worcester, try the Empire Furniture mumble-something, Showroom? Can't
    remember the official name. However, they have some floor samples to
    show you the quality and craftsmanship, then you order from a catalogue
    so the prices are lower - the store doesn't have to carry an inventory.
    It's a guided store - you need an escort. But it's open to the public
    and it's terrific. It used to be for decorator's only, so they have
    some really unusual styles. It's on Jackson St., not far from
    Rotman's.

It might be worth a trip out to Gardner, MA. There's a bunch of furniture
factory outlet stores out there, in Gardner and the surrounding towns.
Take route 2 west and you'll find it out past the Leominster/Fitchburg area.
One outlet can be seen from route 2, but I don't remember the exit number.
If you start there, they'll give you a map showing some of the others.

757.27how about just buying the bedding nowPCBUOA::GIUNTATue Feb 28 1995 08:379
    Something we did when we bought beds for the twins was to just buy the
    frame, mattress and boxspring. We delayed getting headboards figuring
    we'd buy them a whole bedroom set minus the bed when they are around 10
    or so, and they can take the furniture with them when they move away
    from home. So we bought bedroom furniture at a yard sale so they have
    dressers, and got the new beds. An advantage to just buying the bed is
    that you can go to any mattress/bedding place and get a good price.

757.28The Oak Gallery - LittletonUPSAR::FRAMPTONCarol Frampton, PATHWORKS for Windows NTTue Feb 28 1995 11:2610
    I'd second The Oak Gallery in Littleton that was mentioned a few notes
    back. I was there last week and saw a very nice bunk bed set for $639.
    It was natural colored wood - I think oak. It was very similiar to the
    bunkbeds I bought for my daughter last year at Bradfords - and I spent
    over $1000 on sale. The Oak Gallery also had nice hardwood bed frames
    and bureaus. I even commented to my husband when I got home that we'd
    have to keep the place in mind for when my 10-month old son needs
    furniture in a year or so.
