635.0. "DANGEROUS TOYS LIST" by AIMHI::DONOVAN () Wed Nov 24 1993 09:22

    I am looking for the annual list of dangerous toys for children. I
    know it is published every year about this time. I have heard that
    some little stuffed dog and a fish with glasses is on it.

    Does anyone have access to that list or know any other popular toys
    that may be dangerous to children?

    Or how about the "annual list of dangerous toys for PARENTS" - you know,
    those high priced, plastic, noisy, over-advertised toys.

    Attack Paks - my 3 year old son loves them, and they are pricy and
                  noisy

    Best bet on "dangerous toys for children" is to check them out yourself
    and don't take anyone's word on it ...

    I guess,since it is NOT an israeli toy,you can also get it in the US or
    in Europe.So BE CAREFUL!!!
    Those tiny little sponge_like toys that when come in contact with
    water, grow and grow to about 10th time of the original size. Kids can
    easily stuck it in thier mouth,and before you know-it's down to the
    systems where there are plenty of juices for it to inflate.

635.3Barney sleeping bag?CSC32::DUBOISDiscrimination encourages violenceTue Nov 30 1993 14:307
A friend recently warned us that she had seen a special on TV that said
that the Barney sleeping bag is flammable.

I haven't confirmed this with anyone yet, but am glad that I had already
talked my grandmother out of buying it (too bulky for the plane, we agreed).

    The show that Jane Pauley and Stone somebody (Philips, I think)
    have (it's a 10 p.m. magazine show) did a segment last week on dangerous
    toys. It was on that show that they lit a Barney sleeping bag to show
    how quickly it can burn up. This applies to ALL those kids' character
    sleeping bags. They also lit a standard adult sleeping bag, which did not
    go up quickly. The difference was due to the material used, but I don't
    remember the details.

    Re the comment about relying on your own judgement versus that of the
    experts: I agree you shouldn't blindly follow the advice of experts,
    but it's worth listening to. They have the advantage of getting their
    hands on the unpackaged toy as well as access to data about previous
    injuries and deaths caused by a particular toy.
