| It is my understanding you cannot be laid off while out on disability.
I have seen it happen a couple times here. The day you come back, that
is when you are told.

| I agree with the "check with your PSA" statement, but just FYI, from
the VTX ORANGEBOOK info pulled today.......
"Normally employees on disability are notified of their selection
after they are determined to be Medically Qualified to return to
work. However, where the facility in which the employee last
worked is closed as a part of an approved Plant Closing Program,
and the employee's position is eliminated as a part of that
Plant Closing, the employee will be notified at the same time as
other employees impacted by that Plany Closing. These employees
will be terminated in accordance with the provisions of that
approved Plant Closing Plan, regardless of the length of their
disability, and will be eligible for any severance or support
package offered to employees under that Plan."

625.4 | Oh yes you can--it happened to me | MR4DEC::DONCHIN | | Mon Nov 15 1993 16:43 | 24 |
| I was laid off while on disability in 1991 after having my second
child. I found out in April that my organization (MCG) would be laid
off at the end of June and I left on STD in early June. I lost half of
my disability, but I did get a more generous severance package than the
one offered today, so it didn't hurt us as much financially as it would
now. Of course, because I was performing work for another
organization that continued after the MCG layoff, I was brought back
almost immediately as a contractor (mid-July part time). That explains
why I can answer this query today.
There may be some differences between my situation and yours because I
was laid off as part of an organization-wide layoff, but I'm not sure.
Hopefully Personnel can clear that up for you.
I know it's easier said than done, but try not to think about the
possibility of being laid off and concentrate on you and the baby. You
aren't really in the best position to go job hunting now, so why let
the stress get to you. That's the position I took after the initial
news and I think it helped me, the baby, and my family.
Good luck.
