583.0. "Daycare names?" by ANGLIN::SEITZ (A Smith & Wesson beats 4 Aces.) Fri Sep 10 1993 11:45

    Hi,

A friend of mine is opening a day care and looking for catchy names.
    Any suggestions?

I find that themes go a long way in helping to associate names
with places. Also the style of teaching often plays a part in the
look of a daycare, and a name can often reflect, in part, the values
    of the owner/operator.

What age range will the daycare be for? Will the hours of
operation be during regular business hours or 24x7? Would your
friend like to incorporate his or her name into the name of the
daycare? Will the daycare be in the country or in the city? If in
the city, suburban or downtown? Will the daycare be very structured
where a serious-sounding name may be desired, or will the friendli-
ness and openness be emphasized, where a more playful-sounding name
    would do well?

If I had a little more information, I might be able to come up
with a few suggestions. In any event, best wishes to your friend
    on getting started.
                                                   -Giles-

No specific ideas, but PLEASE urge her to keep away from cutesie
misspellings. No wonder so many kids are illiterate when half the
businesses around them spell their own names wrong! Occasionally it
works when there's a clever play on words, but usually it's a bad idea.

    My two cents,

    -Tracy

Future Assets was my favorite from the list - in conjures up images of
hope and investment in our future.

I'm not sure you can legally reuse another center's name, unless it's
a franchise, or something like that... I mean, it *is* a business...

I believe you can as long as you cross state lines. You cannot
copy the name of another company in you state (I believe only if
they are in the same line of business).

However, if the name is copyrighted, that is another story.

Examples... Salty Dog Restaurant in Manchester NH and Salty Dog
Pottery, also in NH... there seems to be no legal problems with
this. Then there is the Hunan Garden restaurant. I've seen them
in several states and they are definately not a franchise (some
are owned by the same owner but others are not).

I like Building Blocks... in fact, I thought I'd made it up

I like the one from my daycare center - Grow With Us and the letters
in Grow increase in size. Pretty cute! But it can't be used here
in MA. But I like it.

    Cheers,

I just got into this note, and wonder what your friend ended up using
    as a name?

I saw one near my inlaws home, it would appear they have taken
(perhaps) their child's name, and called it "Ben's Buddies".

My own provider, on her answering machine message simply calls hers
    	"Colleen's Daycare"
