571.0. "Radio Oz/Radio Aaahs" by IVOS02::NEWELL_JO (Jodi Newell - Irvine, CA.) Tue Aug 24 1993 16:40

Last Sunday, as I drove six kids to go rollerskating for my son's
sixth birthday, the two girls in the van started singing to the
soundtrack for Aladdin. On the way home the boys begged me not to
put the soundtrack on again. :^) Looking for something to do, the
two girls asked if I knew about "Radio Oz", I said "no."

They told me it was at a.m.830 on the dial (so cal). So I punched
in the numbers and gritted my teeth (a.m. radio always makes me do that)
as the girls went crazy singing songs like "There's a Hole in the
Ozone" and "Jenny the Bubblegum Queen."

Radio Oz, it appears, is an "all kid song" station. 830 is the Los
Angeles affiliate but it sounds like it's nationwide, maybe even
worldwide. Anyone else heard of it?

Last Sunday, we took the kids to the opening of the Los Angeles
Central Library (it was destroyed 7 years ago in a fire).

As we walked around I noticed many people wearing hats and pins
with Radio Aaahs written on them. It took me quite some time
to figure out what I was looking at. All this time, I thought
    it was Oz.

We never made it to the Radio Aaahs booth so I didn't get any
more info on it and I can't stand listening to AM radio so I
haven't found out much more. But...this is a very cute radio
station for kids and if you have little ones and can tolerate
AM (it may be FM in your part of the country), it would be worth
    a listen.

While at the library, we went to a Ghost Writer Rally. Ghost Writer
is a weekly PBS mystery show for kids that encourages reading and
    writing. My kids love it.

After the rally a fellow named Dave Kinion came in. He is little
like Raffi. He sings kids songs and plays the guitar. Apparently
he is a big hit on Radio Aaahs. My kids were so bored by him, they
    asked to leave.
