518.0. "Innoculating babies and children" by HEART::MACHIN () Tue May 18 1993 11:02

	Hello,

	My son is 14 months, and he's due for his MMR (Measles, Mumps
	and Rubella) jab.

	Since he had a febrile convulsion at six months (result of
	tonsilitis), our doctor advised a shot of gammaglobulin (not
	sure if that's how it's spelt) to counter the tendency of the
	MMR jab to raise temperature.

	'Course, now the jab's due the doctor's on holiday and his
	colleague says don't bother with the additional GG jab.
	(The MMR drug company concur with this).

	Anyone had any experience of anything to do with any of
	this?

	Thanks,

	Richard.

518.1Can you reschdule...AKOCOA::BOLANDTue May 18 1993 11:148

    First thought, can you reschedule until your doctor is back and discuss
    this with your primary doctor. It may give you more confidence in your
    decision.

    Just a thought.

    That was my thought too - if there is a difference of opinion, talk it
    over with the original doctor before making any decisions.

518.3Reactions to shots?\CSC32::L_WHITMORESat Nov 18 1995 00:1112
    I couldn't find another note that talks about reactions to shots,
    although I'm sure there must be one in here somewhere. Please
    point me in the right direction if you know where it is! My
    question is this - my 6 month old daughter had her DTP and Hepatitis-B
    shots yesterday - 1 in each leg. One leg has a huge lump where the
    shot was given and is very tender. My sons never had any reaction to
    their shots so I am not sure what to do about this lump. I had been
    told to try massaging the area but it really hurts her and she
    cries! Any suggestions? I plan to call the Dr. on call tomorrow
    and ask him, but thought I'd check here too. Thanks for any help.

    Lila,

    You could try a little ice on it. alternated with a warm washcloth.
    the main thing is to keep her flexing the leg, and definitely call the
    dr.

    Meg - thanks for the reply - the lump in her leg has gone down
    considerably and it doesn't seem to be bothering her any longer.
    I jumped the gun like a usually do whenever there's something
    going on with my kids that I haven't seen before!! But I
    appreciate your suggestion. Thanks again. Lila
