| If it makes you feel any better, you have company! I am pregnant with
#2 as well, and had a bout of bleeding when I was about 11 weeks along
- they confirmed the previa through ultrasound the next day.
After that, the Dr. told me to "be careful" i.e., no carrying laundry
downstairs, no vaccuuming, no carrying grocery bags etc. It really
cramped my style, since I prefer to stay busy all the time but now I
just have to ask my husband to do these things for me. It is much
better than being confined to bed!
I try to be careful, and so far no more bleeding. I am scheduled for
another ultrasound in April to (hopefully) confirm that the previa has
corrected itself. My understanding is that if the condition no longer
exists, a C-section won't be planned. I am due in early July.
Best of luck to you - my Dr. told me that this condition is actually
more common than you think.

| When pregnant with Neel (now almost 10 months old) during an ultrasound
at 14 weeks to check for twins my OB found a "low placenta". After she
discussed this with the radiologist and the other OB's in her practice
they said that at 14 weeks it is kinda hard to conclude a placenta
previa. They said that it could fix itself and I went back for an
ultrasound at 26 weeks. All was fine.. the placenta was where it should
have been.
If you do not experience any bleeding then it could be just at it was
in my case...it will take care of itself.

| I had some slight bright red bleeding around 12 weeks. An ultrasound showed
that the placenta was partially over the cervix. My doctor didn't diagnose
it as placenta previa -- said it was too early in the pregnancy to label it.
She also said that it's fairly common for the placenta to be low during the
early part of the pregnancy, then as your uterus expands, it kind of rides
upward. At 20 weeks I had another ultrasound which showed everything was
okay.
My sister-in-law had undiagnosed placenta previa. She experienced no
bleeding - very unusual, I'm told. At any rate, she had no restrictions
on her activities since her doctors didn't know about the condition, and
went on to deliver our very healthy nephew via C-section.

471.4 | I had a similar problem | MEMIT::GIUNTA | | Wed Mar 10 1993 13:02 | 11 |
| My experience was similar to .3. I had some bleeding in week 13, and
an ultrasound showed that the placenta for the first twin was too close
to the cervix, but they expected that it would move up as my pregnancy
progressed. It did move up, though I was put on bedrest for a week
until the bleeding stopped. At my ultrasound at around 24 weeks,
everything looked normal.
I did, however, deliver my twins 4 weeks later, but I don't know if
one had anything to do with the other.

| My first son was delivered by caesarian due to the fact that he was breech,
I was diagnosed with a low placenta which turned out to actually be covering
the placenta, and I had a very narrow basin. The combination of the three
made the doctor go for the caesarian (thank God, I'd have lost Dirk otherwise).
I had no bleeding during the pregnancy. Even though Dirk was full term, he
was very small (just under 5 lbs), probably from sitting on the placenta the
whole time.
Also, due to the placement of the placenta and the fact that they did a bikini
cut, I lost a lot of blood in the delivery. All's well that ends well,
however.
But I had no problems with the pregnancy itself.

| 1st ultrasound at 19 weeks also showed a very low placenta. Sort of
braced myself for possible c-section.
With the 26th week ultrasound, the placenta had moved up enough to
make all the doctors happy.
I had a very average vaginal delivery. (Charlotte is 10 months)>

| A former coworker (Hi Deb, how that little girl?) had an early
detection of placenta previa, as the pregnancy progressed it took care
of itself. Although the baby was born a few weeks early, small but
very strong and healthy, it was a normal delivery.
To the basenoter, it's been some time how are you progressing?

re: .-1
Timely question. I actually just found out yesterday, thru another
ultrasound, that the placenta has moved up and the previa is gone!
The technician said this is what happens in 90% of the cases. Looks
like the C-section isn't required.
Also found out I'm having a boy :') !!! I already have a 19 month
old girl...time to quit the baby scene after this one..

| RE: .8
I am the author of .1 - seems we both got good news. The ultrasound
shows that the previa is gone, and it appears that we are expecting a
boy, too. (I have an almost 3.5 yr. old daughter).
Only problem for me is that the baby is breech - but hopefully that
will change before my due date. My doctor isn't very optimistic since
my daughter was breech, too, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.
