445.0. "Valentine's Day Cards" by TOOK::FRAMPTON (Carol Frampton, DECnet/OSI for OSF) Wed Feb 10 1993 14:20

I'd like to help my 14 month old daughter make her daddy a Valentine's
Day card. Does anyone have any simple ideas for a card we could make?

I just found out last night that my daughter's daycare class is having
a Valentine's Day party on Friday. Given that my husband came home
with a list of the names of her classmates I assume she is suppose to
bring Valentines to this party. I went out at lunch and looked at the
Hallmark Valentine cards designed for older kids to bring to school.
They just didn't seem appropriate. I'd like to at least find Sesame
Street Valentines if such things exist. Does anyone have any
suggestions on what I could do?

    Carol,

I got my son's valentines at one of the dollar stores. You
know the ones that have everything for $1. The one in Marlboro
had a box with Dinosaur Valentines. Sorry, not sure what other
    designs they had.

One thing that our daycare recommended was that you NOT put
the name of the child that the Valentine is for on the envelope.
This way, things will come out more even. There may be a few
kids that do not bring valentines for their classmates. This
is more of a suggestion for your center to do in the future
    though.

As for a Valentine card for Daddy...pictures always go over
big in our house. You could use construction paper and cut
out some red hearts. We used markers and glitter for this
year's card (but Steven is 3+) You could put her picture
inside the heart on the cover and a poem inside. Just let
her scribble all over the card and I'm sure he'll love it!

    Carol,

About cards for your daughter's daycare class...

I found boxes of 20 cartoon character valentines at our local drug
store. I have also seen them at grocery stores in the card aisle and
at discount stores (like K-Mart, etc.) I bought Aladdin cards for my
son because he is NUTS about the movie. We are working on those
    tonight.

Here's an idea for a card for daddy -- buy a large (medium) paper doily
(sp?) at your grocery store in the baking goods aisle. Let your little
one paste (glue stick) a picture of herself right in the middle. You
cut out a large red construction paper heart to paste the doily/picture
on. Then let your daughter "sign" the back and you can date it so
Daddy can keep it for ever and ever. Also looks nice at work!!
Best part about it, very little cutting and assembly required.

    Happy Valentine's Day!!

    Kathy

My mother-in-law pick up my son Alex some Sesame Street Valentines at
Kmart, it is a pack of either 30 or 32 small cards.

Regarding the Card for Dad. Like Linda in .1 a picture goes over well
with dad in a home made card. Alex is 3+ and likes to paint and draw.
What you could also do is something that my brother did for his wife
last year. He got some red lipstick and put it on my neice and let her
kiss a white piece of construction paper and then let her draw on it
and he wrote the words after she was done. It came out really cute.
The paper doily idea is good also.

    Have fun.

Of course there is also the old stick the child's hand in red paint
and then press it onto white paper, you could then draw a heart around
this. The hand prints are always nice because it's neat to see how big
    the kids get every year.

We also got Sesame cards (me want you to have a yummy day) as
Spencer just adores Sesame Street characters. We got them at Shaws
which is a local supermarket chain.

I helped my daughter make a card for her Daddy and we bought some Vday
stickers and folded a piece of contruction paper in half and drew a bug
heart then decorated all over with the stickers. I like the picture
    idea.

    RE: Current

They have "seasonal" catalogs, along with specialty catalogs
for School teachers, and Christians. They offer a wide variety of
cards, stationary, wrapping paper, and gift items.

My wife works in the Customer Service Dept. at Current, *very* good
company. Their customers are #1, which is very rare in todays market.
They go the extra mile for their customers. I recommend them highly.
