301.0. "Teaching Safety Issues" by TEMPE::MERRICK (Stark Raving Sane!?) Sat Sep 12 1992 12:35
I am looking for information on safety issues for kids to use when an adult
might not be nearby.
What safety issues do you teach your children? When do you teach them?
(When the subject happens to come up, either in conversation or experience,
or because Johnny is now 6 years old, he should know this...?)
Does anyone have any good books to recommend on the subject of safety and
handling emergencies? I am looking for a book that parents can use as a
guide for teaching their kids safety in many areas of life. I've seen
books on specialized subjects (i.e. bicycle safety, water safety, teaching
your kids to avoid strangers, etc.) but nothing that gives good basic
information on several subjects.
This is what I've come up with on my own, and my daughter has had limited
training at school and at home in most of this. I would appreciate anything
you can add, with as much detail as possible.
CPR/First Aid (Cuts, burns, bandages...)
Personal Security (anything from staying away from strangers while walking
home from school to how they answer the phone)
Cooking (Settings, times...)
Fire (Fire extinguishers, emergency exits...)
Electrical (outlets, breakers, lightning...?)
