Hello, Has anyone heard of a child being born with a congenital cataract? My daughter was born in April with this and she had the lens of her eye removed when she was four weeks old. Now she wears a contact lens. In a few more years she will either have a donor implant, her cornea shaved to act like a lens or she will have an intraoccular implant. Our main concern now is that the eye that was operated on has stopped growing. Her healthy eye is about twice the size. It is really tearing my heart out to see this happening. We are going to a Mass eye and ear doctor Monday for a second opinion. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Cindy

Cindy, my niece was born with Congenital Cataracts in both eyes. She is 19 years old now. She had only one eye done when she was 3-4 years old and has worn contacts ever since (and was able to put them in by herself when she was 5). Her eyes did grow appropriately. I'll talk with my brother and find out who her doctor is/was. I believe he was out of Mass, Eye & Ear and would come to Lawrence, MA hospital once a week (that is where my niece had the operation done). Julie |
