214.1 | ANOTHER LARGE FAMILY | SWAM2::ESPARZA_AN | | Tue Jul 06 1993 15:37 | 6 |
| My father-in-laws had 18 brother & sisters, I believe only one died at
birth and none were multiple births, all by the same mother and father.
My husbands grandmother out lived his grandfather.
Just thought you might find interesting. I did.

214.3 | and the goal was 2 dozen! | DELNI::GIUNTA | | Tue Jul 06 1993 16:22 | 6 |
| To continue this a bit more, my mom grew up with some kids from family
where the mother wanted to have 2 dozen kids. She only managed to have
20 (all singletons), and I'm pretty sure they all lived.
I figure the woman must have been a saint. I know I can just barely handle
the 2 I've got!

| Yes, I rememebr reading this world record about the 69 children.
(AND I AGREE WITH WENDY!)
My mother-in-law's parents both come from large families.....Grandma
Iris (her mom) was the oldest of 13 - she had 12 brothers.....

| OF course, delivering them, becomes easier (Though bringing them up
never will...) I recall our doctor at Nashua Memorial, telling the
sotry of a woman who came in for her 9th baby. The nurse came in, and
the woman said, "I'll be giving birth in about 15 minutes" The Nurse
thought she was dreaming and wen't off to do something else. Sure
enough, 15 minutes, and 3 large contractions later...
When I lived in Papua New Guinea (where my Mom ran the Hospital
Auxiliary), I recall one woman, who stopped working in her Garden,
walked 20 miles, over a 5000 ft mountain range, turned up at the
hospital , and delivered triplets within an hour (she already had 8
kids)...

| This isn't a large family, compared to some in here... but one of the
guys I work with was telling me about a friend of his who has 7 kids!
No big deal right????
Try doing it the way he and his wife did!!
Twins (boy/girl) born 1/77
Twins (boy/boy) born 12/77
Triplets(boy/girl/boy) born 10/78
That's 7 babies in 22 months!!!
YOWCH!!!!!

214.10 | quads for 1st pregnancy... | SOLVIT::OCONNELL | | Thu Jul 22 1993 11:32 | 14 |
| Again, this is not the largest family, but...
last night, I saw a young couple pushing two strollers full
of quadruplets...about 6 months old...through the neighborhood.
I remember reading about them in the newspaper. They'd only
been married about 6 months when the woman became pregnant,
no fertility drugs, nothing...and quadruplets.
Yikes...from compact car to mini-van in one fell swoop.

214.11 | Just for the record ... | TRPDRV::LARRIVEE | Russell J. Larrivee | Fri Jul 30 1993 11:55 | 11 |
| My wife comes from a family of 10. 5 boys and 5 girls. We have 11 children
8 boys and 3 girls. They were all single births. This ties the record
for our town. (At least as near as we can tell) Chances are we'll break it in
a couple of years.
We figured my wife's been pregnant 115 of the 252 or so months we've been
married. Works out to be something like 45% of her married life.
Although not a record, for a contemporary family its pretty big.

| Russ,
You must have quite an exciting life! I am having trouble imagining
what it must be like. But I do know that your wife should be given
a medal for all the hard work she's done (physical work of carrying
and delivering!).
I'm impressed.
