Is anyone familiar with the Kumon educational system...from what I have read they are math-oriented problem solving workshops for pre-school and up....i know there is a school in Cambridge (and some other US cities) although the methodology originated in Japan. any opinions or input would be appreciated. joanne

Joanne, I spoke to one of their reps at a workshop one time - it's a self-paced set of math worksheets that the kids complete (with supervision) at the Kumon classroom. They supposedly don't compete with each other, just against themselves. They do as much as they want in the time allotted. I don't know any more than this - but I think there is a noter somewhere who has some direct experience...(maybe??) The program sounded kind of intriguing for a kid who enjoys self-paced individual work. Lucy |
